Optihut, I doubt if they’ll have the new $20 note out that quickly. They’ve been issuing the new designs about every year to 18 months over the past few years, and they’ve just now issued the $100, so it will likely take a while.
In any event, in answer to your question, the Bank of Canada has the same policy as the U.S. - it never recalls old notes, because that has the potential to undermine people’s confidence in the currency. Instead, the old notes are gradually removed from circulation by the banks when they become too tattered and torn.
For example, the Bank of Canada introduced the new $10 note about three years ago, and I still occasionally get one of the old ones in change.
Fern Forest, I was wondering whether the new US notes had them. I haven’t seen one of the new ones.
Optihut, I’m sorry, the old ones are no longer valid for tourist use. You’ll have to exchange them. Just send them to Sunspace, PO Box <mumble>, Toronto, Ontari—Hey! Ow! What are you doing-- biff thud SOK Ow! My eye! paf thud My Spleen! !smack! trample trample [sub]urgghh[/sub]
Well, the notes have been relased, and I’ve got my glommy paws on one! It’s pretty cool. “Hologram” stripe, woven stripe, watermark, puzzle numbers, Sir Robert L Borden, the East Block of Parliament, maps, canoe, satellite, and satellite dish.
MarkofT, the Eurion Constellation is on the new 100. Both sides, even. On the front, it’s in the horizontal zone below the watermark. On the back, it’s just below the map of Canada, where it looks like a map of impact zones plotted acros the midwest US.
