Charles Murray has suggested that affirmative action is one of the reasons most white Americans have lost confidence in the government. If they have a complex problem, need to work with a civil servant to solve it, and are assigned a black civil servant, they discover that the black civil servant has a great deal of difficulty working on the problem.
Have you ever noticed how white civil servants resolve complex societal problems like this, but black civil servants resolve complex societal problems like this?
Speaking as a white American, I would like to state explicitly that I have never had this experience. I have lost confidence in the government for entirely different reasons, most of which can be laid at the feet of the incompetent white people who have been running things for a long time now.
If I can get serious for a minute, you’re still missing the essential flaw of your whole line of reasoning. You’re assuming that any feelings you or anyone else has must have a valid cause. You’re assuming that because you’re scared of black people, black people must be dangerous; that because you don’t trust black people, they must be deceitful; that because you don’t respect black people, they must be inferior.
The reality is that it’s you who is the problem. Your feelings are irrational and do not say anything about black people in general, even though you can certainly find some individuals who match your stereotypes.
Oddly, there are relatively few problems with black household servants. Except of course those with all the attitude, like on the Jeffersons. She must have been given access to fried chicken on a regular basis.
Still, what a great observation. Now that you mention it, whenever I think of white civil servants, I think of nothing but efficiency and friendly, courteous service. Like the DMV in Connecticut. Or the post office in suburban Pittsburgh. Or the marriage license place in St. Louis. Yessiree, never anything but speedy service with a smile!
This says more about white people than it does about black people. Charles Murray is smart enough to know about confirmation bias. I don’t know whether he’s honest enough to admit it.
The very sad part is that these anus faces have made it much more difficult to actually study genes and violence, because it’s hard to get a representative sample. Many in the African American community have an innate distrust that researchers have an agenda based around proving that African Americans are predisposed to violence. Genetics researchers look with trepidation upon these types of endeavors because of the political minefield that exists.
Turning serious for a moment, this is a perfect example of scapegoating as a motivation for racism. For an old-fashioned big-government liberal like New Deal Democrat, it simply will not do to suggest that people have problems with government bureaucracies because of inherent flaws in the system. Nope, it must be some insidious group of hooliganistic wreckers – if only they can be identified and dealt with, all shall be well.
