I have read people complaining that black students are more likely to be expelled from public schools than white students. That would bother me if it could be proven that blacks are not more likely to be unruly than whites, but it cannot be. In fact, black students are more likely to be discipline problems.

Because blacks do have a much higher crime rate than whites, racial profiling is a legitimate way the police can proactively deal with crime.

I’m pretty sure there is a constitutional issue with racial profiling but its been a while I thought about it.

If it can be proven that racial differences in intelligence and crime are primarily determined by genetics there should be an end to affirmative action, forced school busing, and AFDC, and a harsher criminal justice system. Those are directions the United States has been moving in since at least 1980.

How does lower intelligence eliminate past racism or prove that the effects of past racism have been remediated? It just means taht affirmative action does not need to achieve parity.

One more point: I am in favor of efforts to reduce economic inequality, but I think they should be made without reference to race or sex. The emphasis should be on strengthening labor unions, raising the minimum wage, and on a well financed public sector of the economy paid for by steeply progressive taxation, rather than on affirmative action programs. Affirmative action programs discriminate against white men, especially working class white men, and contribute to the fact that most of them vote Republican.

Affirmative action is most common in government jobs and college admissions. I have heard a lot of Asian parents express negative sentiment about affirmative action because it ends up handicapping their children and forces them to work much harder than a similar white student in order to get into a good school. I presume Jewish parents might feel the same way.

My parents were fairly permissive with me. I never got into trouble with the police or in school because…

Also, if one can be tested for crime genes, this would be important in deciding which criminals should be paroled and which ones should not be.

I suspect you are correct regarding the idea that there will be a constellation of genes. I suspect you are incorrect that they will code for predisposition to engage in crime.

First, it is almost certainly the case that a constellation of genes will code for each of a constellation of brain function processes that themselves will interact with environmental factors to yield individual differences in likelihood to engage in crime.

Criminal behavior is indisputably itself quite heterogeneous. There are varied types and severities. I might have no qualms about speeding, but still be very unlikely to commit homicide. I might not have any problem fudging my personal income taxes, but may still refuse to engage in insider trading.

Genes likely code for processes underlying impulse control, or ability to engage in problem solving, or ability to take others’ perspective, or ability to perceive others’ emotional states, or ability to respond empathically to others’ emotional states, or tendency to employ a hostile attribution bias to one’s interpretation of others’ behavior, or tendency to feel irritable, and so on and so forth to dozens or hundreds of different functional processes related to the ultimate manifestation of criminal behavior. But, this ultimate manifestation will also only express itself after interaction with environmental factors (parenting, family environment, socioeconomic environment, peer relationships, etc).

Thus, I don’t think it will ever be as simple as you envision that it will be to distinguish groups based on genotype. For instance, I think that features like limited perspective taking, callousness and impaired intellectual functioning will be observed (and genetically encoded for) amongst criminals. I also think that these will be observed and genetically encoded for amongst people who hold racist points of view.

I know when I get just the right amout of fried chicken and grape soda in me, I always go on a wild killing spree. I also drop several IQ points and spontaneously produce out-of-wedlock babies, like in Gremlins. My hypothesis is that certain foods activate the Scary Negro gene cluster. All I have to do is pass by a Popeye’s and I can feel the mRNA start gearing up. (Yes, I can sense on the cellular/molecular level. It’s a black thang. Ya’ll wouldn’t understand.)

Maybe black people who carry these genes can receive gene therapy, or at least have their embryos screened. Scary Negro is often associated with great beauty, though, especially in women. Naomi Cambell is a well-known sufferer of Scary Negro Syndrome. Plus, the genes confer the ability to swivel your neck as you tell someone off…which comes in handy when you’re riding the bus and someone’s pushing all up on you. So there are some trade-offs we need to consider. Maybe all we have to do is change diet (like from fried chicken to baked, grape soda to orange). Simple changes like that and we can all live in harmony!
