I’m a big fan of the whole “Law & Order” franchise. I’m just now watching the first episode of this new series (5 minutes into it)-- it’s streaming on Hulu, looks like one episode at a time. Don’t have an opinion yet, not oriented to the characters. But I’ve already spoken two lines aloud right before the characters said them.
Anyone else checking it out?
ETA. Big helping of cliched lines.
I am not into the Chicago franchise so I don’t know the shows or characters at all. I am, however, an extra in an upcoming episode of this. Episode 8. I’m trying to figure out if I’m going to watch this so I know what’s going on when it gets to my ep.
Laughed out loud at the Field Museum (with CGI extra floors!) as the Criminal Court. The real Criminal Court Building is a suitably neo-classical building for exterior filming, but no lakefront views. Although both the real Criminal Court and the Field Museum do have hotdog stands out front.
West Wing flashback: it’s the Mirror Universe version of Josh!
Both attorneys over-used the old Perry Mason “rhetorical question withdrawn upon objection because the point was made by the asking” stunt.
Too much L&O “ripped from the headlines” for my taste. The crime itself was too Oakland warehouse fire* and the fake motive was thinly-veiled Pizzagate.
Not saying I wouldn’t watch it again, it didn’t suck but was lackluster.
*Except the fictional warehouse at least had a real staircase and not one made of flammable pallets.
No, she got shot, but she recovered. She was disgraced and very nearly disbarred, though, so it’s surprising that she could end up as a judge.
Several web sources say that the leading man, Peter Stone, is meant to be Ben Stone’s son.
I don’t really watch the Chicago shows, but my wife does, so I saw some of this. I can’t say I cared for it all that much. If it’s a prosecutor’s office, why do they seem to have cops working for them? Is it just to try to recreate the old L&O dynamic?
I watch the Chicago shows and the Justice episode was sort of the “part 3” of a cross over event. The first hour was “Chicago Fire” and had the actual warehouse fire take place. The second hour was “Chicago PD” and had them find the suspect. The “Chicago Justice” was the trial. (Looks like they left the Chicago Med out of it).
Of the 3 parts I thought the justice episode was kind of weak. They were playing that if they couldn’t find a motive for the suspect he would definitely walk. I think most arsonists don’t have a motive beyond “watch it burn”.
I was born and live in Chicago, and LOVE anything Chicago related. But, these Dick Wolf shows just leave me cold. Not that they are *bad *shows, mind you, and I *loved *the L&O shows, but they just DO NOT capture any sort of Chicago vibe. I am grateful for the money they bring to the local economy, but I can’t muster up any civic love for them. Sorry, Dick.
PS - Dick Wolf is a NYC native, and no doubt a talented individual, but I suspect he has trouble groking the true Chicago vibe.
