New Doper gets a new puppy

He’s a ten week old shih tzu and his name is Cher. [Yep his name is Cher.] Here are some pictures. Isn’t he adorable? Just a big ol’ ball of fur. He’s a tad mouthy, and house breaking has been slow going but it’s hard to get angry with the little guy.

My partner and I have been together for four years and with this new doggy we feel like parents. Is this normal? The second day we had him he fell off of a chair [we just turned our backs for a second, I swear :)]. Oh my god! Did he hurt himself? Should we call a vet? He was fine. But I’m telling you, every day we’re on the phone with the breeder. “He’s got what looks like hiccups. Is that normal?” “He keeps scratching his ears. What’s wrong?” Last night was the best though. Both of us wake up at 3:30am to Cher barking his head off. We look at each other. Mr. Servo says, “Do you want to take him out to pee, or should I?”

::sigh:: I’ll do it.”

I’m going to wait until we have our next fight. If I feel guilty for fighting in front of the dog, I’m going to find some professional help. [“It’s OK Cher. Just because we fight doesn’t mean we don’t love each other.”]

I thought being gay meant I would avoid all of this. Who knew? :slight_smile:

I’m so happy for you! Enjoy this all too short-lived time. Then, you’ll have many happy years of dog-parenthood to look forward to. And, no, you’re not weird. We had one dog who took sides in a fight. He would stand in front of “his” party, facing the other, and bark his head off. We had a lot of disagreements end in helpless laughter. I still miss that dog…

And, BTW, congratulations on buying from a reputable breeder!
