Worcester area here. We are alive, warm and fully powered. Made bread this morning. Used the snow thrower this afternoon to get in a first pass at the snow. Just hanging out with the wife and kid.
Whom haven’t we heard from yet?
Northern Mass, and it’s still snowing. I might not be able to get to work tomorrow.
I live in a condo with underground power lines, so I have light and heat. I’ve been hanging around the house eating and working remotely and checking in with family and friends via Facebook all day.
This snow fall is absolutely beautiful. It makes me want to ski. Even the dog likes it.
Shagnasty.
I just remembered (after checking my schedule) that I wasn’t due to work tomorrow anyway. Oh joy! Now I can stayed snowed in for the majority of the day tomorrow until I work up enough gumption to get out there and get to it.
What are the chances that the temperature rises above freezing tomorrow enough to melt it all away by the end of the day? Hey, there’s always a shot at it, isn’t there?
Cold and stir crazy, but alive and powered up.
For some reason, the term, “a snowball’s chance in Hell” comes to mind. ![]()
Also southeastern MA. Official tally was around 18" earlier with a few more inches possible, but there is a lot of drifting, so some parts of the yard have just about bare ground showing and other places have drifts three feet high. Did not go out to shovel at all today. School and town government offices were closed today and tomorrow, so we figured we’d wait until it was really over before digging in. As of 9:33 p.m. Tuesday there is still light snow falling.
We might get more on Friday and Monday.
Southern seacoastal Maine (York / Eliot / Kittery) here, it’s still snowing and blowing here, still, I stand by my “Meh”, '76 and '78 blizzards were far worse
If those storms were a 10 on a scale of 1-10, this one currently rates about a 7.5, final rating when the storm has passed
Currently, drifts are 3-6 feet high, and the snow plowed drift at the back of the driveway is at least 10 feet, flats shielded from wind are an easy 24"
Still, overall impression, Meh.
Maybe you could use a giant fan? This stuff was really light the last time I was out.
Central MA here. They closed down the office, so I got a paid day off. Woo-hoo!
Around 3 in the afternoon, I got tired of being cooped up, so I ventured outside to grab some snacks. Considering my Honda Civic lacks four-wheel drive, this was a horrible mistake. I’m lucky that I got home without incident.
Here in SE Vermont, we were supposed to get 12-18 inches. Have gotten about 5 so far, still lightly snowing at 10 PM. School was cancelled, but it really wasn’t necessary. So now my wife has to work an extra day in June.
At least it was the light fluffy shit. That last ‘storm’ with wet heavy snow and rain SUCKED.
I’m in Boston with about two feet of snow so far and it’s still coming down lightly. All the neighborhood convenience stores are open, one of the hardware stores, and a local gourmet grocery chain. A few restaurants are open and I went to one which can usually be hard to get a table. It’s become my blizzard tradition. Right now I’m sitting in front of the fireplace. Lots of cops out stopping drivers to verify that they have a need to be out.
This morning I heard one of my favorite sounds in the world: the sound of somebody else shoveling my walk while I turn over and go back to sleep. (I live in a condo with great snow removal.)
South of Boston here. We have all the snow that ever was in our driveway right now. We’ve been taking turns shoveling out the stairs and walkway but it was still snowing at 10:30 pm when I was doing my last round of shoveling for the night. Tomorrow morning we get to start shoveling out the car.
mid coast maine here.
meh.
just another storm nothing special.
power didnt even flicker.
more overhyped weather reporting
Southeast New Hampshire checking in. We got about 30" inches here, but the winds never got much above 20mph, so there were no significant power outages. Plow guy came twice, probably again in the morning to cleanup the overnight remains. I did most of the shovelling, some left for tomorrow. A lot of snow, but no major problems.
So apparently Dopers have a huge number of terms for “snow”. Reminds me of a meme I heard once.
I’m at work today. I dug out at the end of the storm yesterday, but there was plenty to shovel this morning before coming in to work.
I’m on the North Shore, well above sea level. Our snow was light and fluffy. My cousin, in Scituate on the south shore, got pummeled by the ocean. There was footage of extensive flooding in Scituate (although my cousin’s on a hill, and didn’t get hit with that).
As expected, my loaner car, 2013 Jetta SE automatic <blech!> was absolute CRAP in the snow/slush covered roads, I lay the blame fully on that stupid traction “control” that can’t be disabled, I really, really miss my 2007 Rabbit 5 speed manual with a traction “control” that can be COMPLETELY disabled with the push of a button…
Here in Dover NH, where I work, we got dumped on, 36" easily, the lot to work only barely got finished plowing by 9AM, they started at 7:30ish
Coastal Maine got off easy this time
D’you think so? I’m in Portland and snowfall had to be about 22". Drifts are enormous, and even on the city streets they’re still plowing. Most interesting is the way the blowing snow ended up on our windows. It went through the screens and formed drifts between screen and glass. These have… solidified… and I think we’ll need some warm temperatures before we can look out again.
Southern central New Hampshire, we got just over a foot. Which is nice compared to others east of here. We usually have higher accumulations than most.
