Dear Friends, does anyone knows the truth about the new phase that our solar system will supposedly enter at the end of 2012 matching the end of the Mayan Calendar?
People say we will enter an era of light after thousands of years in dark universe.
Wow, this news just blew me away, and I just had to find out more about what’s coming. I tried consulting a Ouija board, but all it will say on the subject is GO CUBS, which is patently absurd. I’m returning it to Toys R Us tomorrow.
Is this “new era of light” supposed to be a good thing? It seems to me like the Universe is plenty light enough to be getting on with just as it is now. If it got much lighter, we’d all be fried to a frazzle.
‘Under this invisible but powerful light, bodies and minds will be purified, and aging, sickness, and death will be no more. Neither will we need technologies of any kind; our full status as light beings will be reactivated, and powers such as telepathy and teleportation will be the norm.’
Y’know, we used to try to answer the question before we broke out in gales of laughter and began rolling around on the floor holding our sides.
This question used to come up a lot more frequently, but it seems to have been a few years since its last appearance in Stupid Mayans and the end of the world and even further since its initial appearance (following the move from AOL) in Aztec Sun Calendar (on this thread you need to wade through a lot of acrimony to the bottom to get to the Straight Dope®).
So, you’re saying we’re going to be light beings. At what wavelengths are we going to be radiating? If I put a molecule in a strong magnetic field and then radiate my new light-being body at it, will I get spin flips?
I know a little that I was able to learn from a Mayan friend in Cozumel. It is called the “Golden Age”. It does mark the end of the calendar but it also marks the start of a new calendar. My friend doesn’t think it is a very big deal, no end of the world or dire predictions. His opinion is that others misundertand the meaning. The end of the calendar meant rebirth, or starting new. Much like new years for us. They Mayans believed that they would be entering a new age of understanding and elightenment in 2012. Perhaps, there are some great inventions that will be discovered in 7 years. Cycles in the Mayan calendar are common. One of the most interesting is a 52 year cycle were he says Mayans burn all their possessions and start over. Or, at least they did in the old days.
The Plieades are at least 400 light years away. If 400 years is the radius of a circular orbit, then the circumference is 2513.27 light years. If we travel around Alcyon in a 26,000 year orbit, then our average orbital speed is nearly 10% the speed of light. IMO, there would be a hell of a lot more blue and redshifting going on in our stellar neighborhood at this speed…but I don’t see it.
No worries, Q.E.D., but you gotta agree, it’d be fucken funny if he were right.
Maybe it’s just me, but whether it’s Korean evangelical types holed up in a rented room above the lawnmower repair store waiting for the rapture, or nutcases barricaded in a ranch surrounded by ATF officers… I dunno, but there’s a part of me that always hopes they’re right for once, and they can thumb their noses at us.
:smack: Sheesh!
It never ends! Ever feel like 3% of the population has always been responsible for dragging the other 97% out of the cave by their bearskins and amulets?
