New final straw:Soliciting a felony by Tweet?

So reports are the donald has re-tweeted some wingnut’s remark that the only good Democrat is a dead Democrat. Apparently some frantic butt covering followed by the original author, but to my mind the damage was done. When the president re-Tweets such a thing it starts to sound like “Will no one rid me of this troublesome priest!”. We know how that wound up.

I am good, god-fearing Democrat, but I almost feel like it’s time to make use of my concealed carry permit. This does not seem good.

Final straw? Trump? Nope.

Retweeting that video is not illegal. Any of us could do it. So can the president. He is a citizen too.

His concern is political. Will enough people get mad at him to cause him a problem?

Trump already knows the answer to this. He will suffer no repercussions. The people who hate him have always hated him and will howl. Trump’s supporters will rally behind him more than ever and encourage him.

The senate has shown there is almost nothing he can do to make them even consider censuring him much less something worse.

In short, why wouldn’t he do this?*

It is another wag the dog to get you to stop thinking about 100,000 dead Americans because Trump fucked-up.

Apparently it is working.

*[sub]Wasn’t there a Twilight Zone movie where a 12 year-old had god like powers and no one could say no to him so his home was basically a horror show? That’s Trump. He’s no god but he has been insulated from any repercussions and so he presides over his own horror show.[/sub]

You know, we really should retire the phrase “final straw” if a guy can break, like, 200 of them and get away with it.

Alnath, Trump has committed so many horrible acts, some of them in violation of the Law for almost four year. Some of them got him impeached. What is the point of filling Great Debates with threads that ask “will this be the last straw”? The answer in every single case (short of Trump raping a young boy on live TV) is No.
His mishandling of Covid-19 might wreck the economy sufficiently to get him voted out of office, but the Republican Senate will not allow him to be removed from office. Posting a series of “look how bad he is!” threads under the guise of looking for a debate just wastes space on the first page of Great Debates or Politics & Elections.

Please knock it off. If you would like to note how terrible Trump is or has been, just post it in** The BBQ Pit**.

Tomndeb, point taken. It’s a rant. I’ll be good.

Optimist.

I note that as of yesterday (I think? I’m on pandemic time) Twitter started putting fact checks on Trump tweets. As of today, they started putting content behind a content warning. It seems that they are finally feeling their way towards pulling Trump into line with their general content guidelines, while allowing the tweets to remain part of the public record. I applaud this development.

I’d like to see them prevent him from deleting tweets as well. If the argument is that Trump’s tweets are special because he’s the President, and they should be part of the historical record, then they should all be part of the record.

I wish they’d started doing this years ago. I regret that Facebook and Instagram won’t do the same.

I don’t think “final straw” is the appropriate metaphor. Trump’s level of support is not a binary state.

There have always been people who support him and people who oppose him. The percentages have gone up and down (probably more down than up). But there will never be a time when he loses all of his supporters.

I was under the impression that he bottomed out completely years ago, and has been since resting on a core group of his base that would support him while he raped a young boy on live TV (possibly by claiming the boy was a crisis actor or something).

If these people have a final straw at all, it will be if the coronavirus killed them dead. Them, personally. At that point they might not vote for him, maybe.

That’s just the break the McCain campaign has been waiting for.

Of course I don’t object to the Moderation, but objective criticism of Bush-43 or of Obama was on-topic in GD. Isn’t it disconcerting, or even almost inconsistent, that objective criticism of Trump is off-limits outside BBQ Pit? BBQ Pit is, after all, the forum for invective not intended for debate or education, while spreading knowledge of Trump should be a goal of ignorance fighting.

“Objective criticism” may be an ambiguous term, but I should think linking to Trump’s own tweeting would qualify.

Oh, sure, jut go ahead and invoke a Republican Zombie* apocalypse on top of everything else!

*Or should that be “Zombie Republican”? Which is the adjective?

Okay, I’ve decided it’s definitely a Zombie Republican apocalypse. “Republican Zombie apocalypse” implies that the “zombie apocalypse” itself is Republican, while “Zombie Republican apocalypse” implies that the zombies themselves are Republicans.
