Total bullshit.

We, as a state, are going to have to defend the border because there’s a fucking war going on down there and the U. S. Government sits in Washington with one thumb up its collective ass and the other in its mouth and thinks it’s doing a great job when it decides to switch them. There is absolutely nothing “punitive, mean-spirited, and stingy” about our decision to do so.

As far as English-only: voted much recently? Especially in Houston, where the ballots have to be provided in forty-lebben different languages, all at increased cost to the taxpayers? Again, this is a Federal problem where the USG has fallen on its ass and the states have to do their job for them. English is the primary language of this country; always has been, always will be. It is only reasonable to expect people who live and work in this country to learn the language of this country. Except, of course, to those who have a vested interest in keeping those people at a level of second-class citizenry.

Door’s right over there. Don’t let it hit you in the ass on your way out.

I did not let it hit me on my ass on my way out.

Every damn time. Have never not voted.

And this “increased cost to the taxpayers”? Is this some dreadful, onerous burden? Every minority language group in America has at least one member who will volunteer to translate a ballot for their fellow citizens. How is that some monstrous burden on the taxpayer? Here in the People’s Republic of Lake Wobegon, public documents are printed in a variety of languages, including Spanish, Hmong, Somali, and various others upon request. So far as I know, no crushing burdens have been placed. I admire these people, for all the placid dullness that is their characteristic, they have an inherent decency others would do well to emulate. You, for instance.

Shirley you cannot possibly be this ignorant?

You offer an utterly repulsive innuendo which you most likely haven’t the nerve to support, certainly you cannot support it with facts. Would you mind terribly keeping your knuckle-walking troglodyte slander to yourself? There’s a good fellow.

Of all the stupid things that we do in Oklahoma, this doesn’t even make the top 10. We’ve sent Jim Inhofe to the US Senate for 4 times ferchrissakes.

You ain’t kiddin’. People that don’t either live there or work in immigration/customs don’t realize how much of a war is happening in places like Juarez. And then they want to get on your case when you dare to suggest that law enforcement actually enforce the law. Fuck 'em.

ETA: Just last weekend, gangs killed 20 people. 20! That’s more of a massacre than Columbine.

A true story: I and a former friend who lives in South Texas broke off relations post-9/11, because I laughed at his dead-serious assertions that al-Qaeda operatives could and probably already had snuck into Texas by mingling with the illegal farm workers, pretending to be one of them. He was unable to see my point that such operatives would probably be very noticeable to the Mexican illegals, who would no doubt want nothing to do with them and even turn them in. Assuming any operatives would actually be that stupid, which I doubt. This man used to be very sensible; I guess it’s true what they say about friends going off in separate directions.

Texas, the state where critical thinking goes to die.

Am I right or Amarillo?

Yes

Most voting is done electronically, and people volunteer for the translation. it doesn’t cost much of anything

No, they haven’t. It isn’t actually a problem.

I doubt it. Spanish will probably the predominant language in texas soon. I hope so anyway. Maybe we can finally get that jackass Perry out of office.

Tsalagi hewoni?

I doubt you speak Cherokee. Damn Euros should go back to Euroland until they can learn the language. We are a multi language society here. There is nothing wrong with that. We have always been a multi language society.

Volunteer?

They help other people, for free?

What sort of socialist utopia are you guys running down there?

Just like Moscow…only with more people yelling yeehaw.

More swimmin’ and swingin’ than running really.

Can we bash some of the ignorant Tennesseans in this new forum too?

I love Tennessee, but I’m getting pretty tired of every time something stupid is quoted in the news, it’s somebody from Tennessee (usually a politician) saying it.

I love Texas. The people who aren’t idiots are great. Cost of living is low. The music scene is incredible. But growing up here I’ve seen the ignorant take over more and more and more every year. The schools are terrible, and I’m not suprised, we’ve rasied a couple of generations of people who are proud to be ignorant and now they are voting themselves into office.

I apologize. I worked hard to get him to Congress, and re-elected during my youth in OK. Hell, I considered him a friend. I had NO FUCKING CLUE how batshit he would get over time.

He stopped taking my calls back in the 90s.

You’re quoting me almost word for word back in the 1970s.

And then there’s Coburn. He’s gotta be in the Top Ten of Dumbasses in DC. Not even sure where to start about him! I agree on Inhofe, too, fwiw.

Nah - BEER!
