New Game of Thrones show - "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms"

People forget but mostly the best parts of GOT was just odd pairings of characters travelling from place to place chatting without much actually happening.

Something extremely lacking in House of the Dragon.

You’re not the first person I’ve heard complain about that.

It was also true for much of the last seasons of GOT. Previous seasons had entire episodes, if not seasons of character pairings chatting away while they reposition for the next big epic action sequence fo move the plot forward. That not only gave the characters depth but provided a lot of scale and historical context for Westeros. By the final season it was mostly just teleporting around the map from one CGI battle to another.

Yeah, they ran out of the good material in GoT and HotD being a “history book” never even covered all the minutiae of travel and just jumps from big event to big event.

Also this series, featuring really only two characters, is probably cheaper to produce than Game of Thrones was.

Speaking of cheaper to produce that “mummer’s dragon” was incredibly well done, if a bit unrealistic for the times.

Out of curiosity are the last dragons dead by this point in the timeline?

I think the show is set prior to Game of Thrones, so yes, there have been no dragons for a long time, though they will reappear during Game of Thrones.

Still a lot of sets to build and extras to wardrobe. But I think it’s only six episodes all taking place over a short time period around this tourney. So it’s not like they have to shoot scenes at The Wall and Kings Landing and Dornn and every castle and village in between.

Depending on what you mean by a long time, the old guy he squired for was old enough to see one of the last ones. Speaking of wardrobe, I had forgotten how good the GoT shows are at this. They look like people wearing worn in clothes instead of brand new costumes like in most other fantasy shows.

Absolutely. This show is like someone took the very best things from the GOT series and just decided to do another show about that stuff. There was nothing in this episode I didn’t enjoy.

I hope this isn’t the case where a show peaked in the first episode. I have a feeling it won’t be.

I finally got around to watching epi 1 last night. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Episode 2 was terrific. Loved meeting Baelor, loved the tug of war, loved the banter with Egg.

Agreed, but I was surprised that it was only 33-34 minutes.

I read that most of this season’s episodes are only about half an hour.

I don’t think that the woman in the hut at the beginning of the episode was sleeping. She probably succumbed to internal injuries from being stabbed by Dunk’s master’s third leg.

Having watched the Mel Brooks doc earlier in the day, I could only think of Lilli Von Shtupp saying, “Tell me Ser Arlan, is it true what they say of your people? How you’re … gifted?”

A true knight indeed.

I like it. This show is a bit smaller in scope (which I find refreshing) and the shorter episode length works for that. It also makes it easier to fit in time to see episodes for my wife and myself.

Man, I really should be happy they are not trying to milk this show by stretching a short story into a whole ten one hour episodes that just veer into fan fiction, but… every time the credits roll my first thought is “NO, MORE!”.
