I think I laughed harder at “meet the troll and answer his questions three” then at anything else on TV this season.
Love the show, though this year hasn’t been as funny as last year.
Thought that Nick and Jess’ kiss was hot.
One of my favorite shows right now. Jess is generally amusing, but I watch it for the guys. All three are hilarious, but Nick’s my favorite. This scene cracks me up every time.
I’d prefer that Nick and Jess stay platonic friends, but the end of this week’s episode sure implies that they don’t!
I watch it out of inertia. It follows Raising Hope which I am tiring of and nothing else on free TV so It’s on. Sometimes I like it sometimes not.
Hannah Simone (CeCe) is a beauty and helps keep my interest.
I watch it for the Hannah Simone. Good lord, that girl rocks!
I am watching and I will be absolutely gutted if the show is cancelled! Not only is it genuinely funny, it stars the amazingly sexy Zooey Deschanel who could light up the darkest room. How she is not the biggest star on the planet is completely beyond me. She’s #1 on my list even if she’s only #4 on the list of the most beautiful women in the world The Most Beautiful Women in the World. They have Cuddy (is that how you spell that?) from House above her. WTF? Zooey is the best!
Frankly, the only reason I gave it a shot was because Zooey is so gorgeous.
I think she has some good moments, usually when she is totally hopeless.
I don’t have any use for the rest of the cast, except maybe the one guy that likes her.
I like The Big Bang Theory much less, but I think if you got rid of the blond from that show, who is always shutting them down for being nerdy, and have the four smart guys helping Jess with her problems, it would be much better then either show.
My first place was Schmidt deciding Robbie must be “Lord of Winterfell” to be dating CeCe.
It’s a great show and I do not like sitcoms. This is the only one I watch. Schmidt kills me, except when he’s fat. I loved him narrating Winston makeout session as his Jewish grandmother last season. Nick is growing on me, as is Jess. Her current boyfriend doesn’t make me want to change the channel, so that’s a plus. And CeCe is definitely something else.
Sorry to resurrect a zombie, but hey, it’s been less than a year. So mostly fresh zombie. I just started watching this show on Netflix, and I’m still in the first season. I can’t say for certain whether it’s because I’ve been drinking every time I’ve watched, but this is the funniest, most brilliant sitcom I’ve seen since Married With Children. And I’ve been in love with Zooey Deschanel since I saw her in Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.
And damn the SDMB character limit on searches. I couldn’t search for “New Girl”. I had to search “Zooey Deschanel” and than scroll through a shitload of unrelated crap where somebody mentioned her, to find this thread.
This being a year later, Zooey has somehow dropped all the way to #34
She is, isn’t she? Also, insanely talented.
I think one of the biggest laughs I’ve gotten so far comes from the fact that I watched the entire first season of Arrow before I started watching New Girl. Seeing Stephen Amell as a 'shroom-addled idiot was just hilarious after watching him portray Green Arrow.
How did I not post in this the first time around? I adore this show - so very, very funny. Lamorne Morris (Winston) just kills me - it doesn’t matter what he does, he makes me laugh. Schmidt kills me. Nick and Jess kill me. The Coach doesn’t kill me; his return hasn’t been great, in my opinion. Maybe they just need to switch gears to write for four guys and a girl now.
You people all need to watch this show so it doesn’t go away!
Because of that, I watched an episode.
It was like watching That Girl, 45 years later. Zooey may be more beautiful than Marlo, but not by much. Both are adorable, perky, qurikly brunettes with scratchy voices. At least That Girl was cutting edge for the late '60s. I hope Zooey goes back to movies or at least a series on HBO – (she would have been great in last fall’s HBO comedy, Hello Ladies.) Her talent is wasted in NG.
I, too, am not feeling Coach’s return. At first I was afraid that Nick and Jess’s hook-up was gonna kill the funny and the Mexico trip and The Box seemed to confirm my fears. But no, I still laugh and laugh.
Truth be told, I laughed at The Box but the premise was terrible and Nick is an awful person. The Box would have been a dealbreaker for any normal sit-com couple. Jess is a better girlfriend than I am. At least she convinced him to open a bank account.
I enjoy this show, despite my inherent disdain for the “improbably hot girl who somehow can’t get a date because she’s just too darn quirky” trope.
Still, (and I think I said this on another New Girl thread here sometime last year) I think the whole Nick/Jess thing is much less funny than the Schmidt/Cece relationship was.
Also: Coach sucks. Are there any other shows where they brought back a character from a pilot episode like this? Usually characters go away after pilot episodes because they suck. That’s the whole point of a pilot!
Wayans Jr was the best part of the pilot and he didn’t leave the series because he sucked. He was on Happy Endings and it didn’t look like they were going to get a second season so he did the NG pilot. Endings was surprisingly renewed so he had to bail on NG.
I really like the show. It’s maybe not as good as it was in the second season, but it still reliably makes me laugh.
Also, have y’all heard that Prince is going to be on? New Girl is going to be on after the Super Bowl, and Prince is going to be a guest star. And it’s because he’s a big fan and wanted to be on the show. He (or I guess his people) apparently called and asked if Prince could be on the show, and he specifically wanted to do something to help out Jess and Nick’s relationship. I think that is so great.
Well, most times when someone disappears after the pilot, it’s because the character didn’t work. Coach’s character worked, and if I remember correctly, it was him who kinda reached out to Jess and had a moment with her. I think he would have worked if he had stayed on the show. But then the actor joined Happy Endings and that got on air before New Girl did, so that’s why he was gone and Winston was in. I agree that Coach hasn’t been well used since he’s been back. Hopefully they can get something figured out.
I’ll also add my love for the show. Absolutely hilarious, especially in the 2nd season. I think this season has been pretty good as well, but it has been a bit awkward integrating Coach into the group. They already were having problems really integrating Winston in and I hope that Coach being part of the group doesn’t screw up Winston’s integration.
This is one of my wife’s favorite show. I enjoy it also.
Man, I would have loved to have Jess as a teacher when I was in school.
The recent changes to the show have been alright. I like Coach, even if the actor is apparently treating New Girl as some sort of safety school.
And the Nick/Jess thing is less disastrous then I thought it would be. I think bringing in the new character helped with this, since it dilutes the “couple” bits and keeps it from swamping the rest of the show.
They seem to have ditched Robbie though
I did like Coach when he was on New Girl originally, but Lamorne Morris has wiped out all memories of Wayans Jr. on the show for me - his chemistry works perfectly with the other three weirdos (in my opinion, of course).
Prince on New Girl?!?
I saw about a minute of it once, and if you are it’s for a very good reason.
