Fans of two of the actors will be happy because, if they miss an episode, they won’t be like,“What the FRAK is going on?!”
Up against Castle, which means I’ll never see it until Castle goes into reruns. If it gets really rave reviews, I might watch it on the computer, but I doubt it. Too bad, too, because it sounds like an interesting reboot.
I’ve got my DVR set to snag both **Castle **and Hawaii 5-0.
No more wondering which Boomer-bot we’re watching!
I love the original so I’m genuinely curious about this remake. Definitely gonna watch it.
And of course, fans won’t be “Lost” if th miss an episode!
Good thing, too. Lost was pretty awful.
I’ll be tuning in for the cast (Except Scott) and the location.
As a huge fan of the original, I’ll be checking it out. No conflict with Castle. That’s why God created DVRs.
Oh, and apropos of nothing, *House *has its season debut tomorrow night as well. You’re welcome!
I’ll watch the first few minutes, at least, to see if they do a decent job with the theme song. Apart from that it’s just niggling little details.
While we’re here, I have a question for the lady dopers. Is Alex O’Laughlin really that good looking? (Three network series in four years.)
Oh, yes. He really is.
He’s a good actor, too. His guest role on Criminal Minds was shiver-inducing, and I didn’t even recognize him until I read the credits.
After some trial and error, they did.
(I am SO glad they didn’t decide to go with that awful version in the second video!)
It has a famous name and a beautiful setting (assuming it’s not actually all filmed in Vancouver or some such), but otherwise is there any reason to think that it’s going to be anything more than the latest in a line of a million interchangeable cop shows? I have a hard time getting excited over this.
Question: will the new Hawaii 5-0 feature a Hawaian detective with an incomprehensible mumble?
How about Det. Jack Lord-who will play him?
I hope the scenery shots are as good as the original-that was the best part of the show!
It is being filmed in Hawaii. (Which makes Daniel Dae Kim a very lucky man. He lives in Hawaii and was lucky to be cast on a series that filmed there. Then just as that series ended, he was cast in a new series that is also being filmed in Hawaii.)
But I agree with what you wrote. This seems like a well-made cop show but there doesn’t appear to be anything extraordinary about it.
What bugged me (though perhaps I just kept mishearing it) was repeated references to “the island” or “my island.” Hawaii is a chain of islands.
And… oh, boy! Cops who break all the rules in the name of justice! A regular bunch of Dirty Hariamas!
There is a certain continuity with Hawaii-based television productions. Magnum, P.I. was created in 1980 in part to take advantage of the studio facilities that weren’t needed as Hawaii Five-O was ending its run.

I definitely heard the same thing too. Especially weird hearing the governor saying something about finding the criminal on her island.

Hawaii is the name of a specific island in the chain.
The island of Hawaii itself is normally referred to as the Big Island. I doubt we ever heard anyone refer to it otherwise the whole time we lived in Honolulu. And it is big too, larger than all seven other main ones put together.
This is the first I’ve heard they’re remaking Hawaii 5-0. I take it it’s a new TV series and not a movie?

CBS seems to think so, don’t they?
So far, the only thing I’ve liked about this show (that they meant for me to like) was the theme song. I have no memory of the original at all. Perhaps I’d feel kinder toward the remake if I did. But this wasn’t worth watching twice.
