My new house is dark at night. Very dark. Well, about 2am the phone started ringing and thinking it might be an emergency I stumbled out of bed to find it… and walked straight into the wall. A very sharp corner of the wall to be precise and I have a huge, ugly bruise right above my left eyebrow! Ouch!!!
Eek. Two words:
Night light
or
Clapper unit.
Make a map, and make DARNED SURE you know the hall closet is on the left and the water closet is on the right (or whichever direction).
Hope you’re feeling better! So who had the audacity to call at 2 a.m.?
[sub]Yeah, I could have said bathroom instead of water closet, but it would have ruined the joke.[/sub]
The caller is still a mystery but the night light is a great idea!!!
Our condo has two (one full and one half) interior bathrooms. Upon moving in, I put nightlights in them in order not to be blinded when turning on the light in the middle of the night. I had previously lived in an apartment facing the street so a night light wasn’t necessary.
I have lived in my new house for two months, and have stubbed innumerable toes, run into the dresser twice, and once creamed my knee on a table. But it’s worth it! It’s my own house! Woo-hoo!
It’s a tradition in my family that on the first night in a new house, someone has to throw up on the carpet. Glad it seems to be just us.
Me too! Yuck!! But a tradition is a tradition!
Been in our new house 30 days, the only one throwing up is the cat, furball season it seems.
Giant grape vine threatening to take over entire back yard. On the day we moved I swore I could smell roses, but couldn’t see any. Got to cutting back the grape vine and, voila - a lovely if overgrown, fully in bloom, tea rose bush. Cut back some more vine and surprise two large metal garbage cans entirely unseen heretofore. I have since built a bower to hold the grapevine, I think that’s what it’s called. I figure why fight it?
Several overgrown bushes on the side of the house actually blocked passage. So I got out my saw and started whacking off branches. Then I realized the largest tree, hardly a bush at all, was covered with buds and about to blossom so I stopped. Figured I'd wait and see what it was like. It has since come into bloom, it's gorgeous, covered with beautiful large purple flowers. I mistook it for hibiscus, but I've been since told that it's actually Rose of Sharon. What a lovely surprise.
As for taking a wrong turn in the night, suffice to say that I am covered with scratches and bruises too numerous to mention.
I love home ownership!
I just rearranged the furniture in my bedroom. I’m not living in a new house, but it’s just as disorienting. So far I’ve…
-
Destroyed a box fan by first tripping over its cord, then knocking it over and falling on top of it,
-
Cut the bottom of my foot by stepping on the plug for my cell phone charger,
-
Awoke with a start when my subconscious brain got completely disoriented due to the new placement of my bed and decided that reorientation was a job for my conscious brain.
I rearranged my bedroom to accommodate a 150-gallon aquarium, which I’m very surprised I haven’t tripped over yet.
