New Iraqi PM a murderer? Do we start bombing again?

I’m not sure where to post this. It’s not mindless, nor is it yet debatable. I’m sure it will elicit opinions, but not polite ones. So in the pit it goes.

If true, we are again supporting a murdering thug in the finest traditions of Noriega and others. I guess we won’t have to bomb the entire country to get rid of him; maybe just a city block will suffice. Or a quietly arranged assassination of him and several dozen of his closest friends.

It’s all just too depressing for a Friday.

Yeah, I was not too thrilled to see one of his first pronouncements include the word “annihlate”. Apparently he was interviewed for his position by the same people who did the Abu Gharib hiring.

“If we attempted to refute each [rumour], we would have no time for other business. As far as this embassy’s press office is concerned, this case is closed.”
Ambassador John Negroponte

The non-denial denial strikes again.

Doesn’t the CIA or U.S gov learn anything from appointin leaders like Allawi, eventually they’ll create more shit than they’re worth.
Whats wrong with installing actual democracy?
Jeesus.

Apparently it’s coming. From the Telegraph

Unless you have a magic wand to make a multi-party federated Iraq simply appear out of thin air you’re stuck with either an American or UN appointed executive until those elections happen.

The inevitable outcome, of course.

Given how may stories coming out of Iraq that seemed credible with witnesses etc, but turned out to be abject BS later on, I’m going to reserve judgment on this one until some confirmation occurs.

Which one? I can easily see about six mutually exclusive outcomes that, looking back, will probably be seen as “inevitable”.

Minty is probably referring to the one where the people of Iraq elect a leader who tells the US to butt out and nationalizes the oil wells, and then George W. Bush or his neocon successor suddenly has an urge to “liberate” the nation once more…

Actually, I was speaking of the inevitable outcome of a fundamentalist Shiite government and civil war.

elucidator’s answer was more sensible. “Inevitability” is not so cut and dried. You have, for example, assumed that Diebold will not be involved.

You know, it really doesn’t matter whether or not Allawi actually killed those people (though Paul McGeough is a reliable journalist, and the two best newspapers in Australia wouldn’t make this page 1 news unless they were sure of what they were doing), what matters is the Iraqi public’s perception of what happened.

So now, he looks to them to be not just a CIA stooge, but a murderous CIA stooge. He’ll have trouble holding on to power for even the 6 months they’re currently contemplating…
