New Landman Job! Now, I need resources...

Whee! I got a fine new job as an Oil and Gas Landman! I have to do the tracking the mineral and land ownership through county records. Not bad, kinda fun. Tedious, but I am a tedious person, so, I may have found my dream job.

However, I have little resources with which to do it. That is, information resources. I got a couple of days training from the company, but it just touched on the basics. In fact, what I learned could have been put onto a two page summary, maybe one, and there were a lot of distractions, and the training wasn’t really well designed. There were a lot of interruptions, and the trainer was being distracted, as he had to do his job as well as training the new fish. So, when there were clarifications that were needed, there would be 20 people going up to him at the same time and, of course, some of the students were asking for a repeat of the basics, while some were needing answers to more technical problems at the same time. And, as is usual, one or more of the trainers had the standard instructors lament “I have my own job to do/I can’t hold your hand forever” after giving very little, or confusing, training.
I can’t go to the old timers there. The company has had a major upgrade: the old timers have been promoted, and the ones that weren’t promoted are the trainers, so their time is at a premium, and they are surrounded by a coterie of the new trainees, which include some very hot young babes, with some very large breasts, so the fifty plus year old handsomeharry, with the large stomach, doesn’t get the priority. Fair enough, if the situation was reversed, I wouldn’t prefer me either. Fellow students are in the dark, also, or not helpful.
But, I don’t need them! I have fellow Dopers!
I know some of the basics. I have a good grasp of the situations that I am dealing with, but I have only done one Ownership report, and I think I botched it. Not big time, just need to put it into language that is more easily understood.
Also, I need a reliable list of common terms that I can readily access, preferably online, since I checked and the go to books on the subject are, currently, priced high enough to be prohibitive, for me.
Also, I was wanting to find some examples of ownership reports that deal with troublesome situations…my company will give me some reports of simple, uncomplex reports, which I can use as template for an ownership report quite easily. It’s the broken chain of title that I particularly need help in constructing an ownership title for.
Can anybody direct me to, uh, I dunno, sites? Books? (Cheap, for now…) Anything? I want to do a great job, but can’t really seem to break into my stride yet.
Can you help me to excel?

Thanks,
hh

I think you need to speak to your manager, but be prepared with a solution. For instance, you’ve said that there were too many trainees per instructor and that the training wasn’t well-designed. So think about how you would redesign the training to better suit the trainees.

Thanks for the input.
Sadly, I don’t believe that they want to hear from some noob how to rearrange their program.
Thanks for thinking of me, tho, and your quick response.

Best wishes,
