According to this CNN story Thomas Harris is writing the book to be released next fall. I have to admit that I didn’t see this coming at all. Given the way that Hannibal ended, I was under the impression that Harris didn’t want anything more to do with Hannibal the Cannibal. I guess the lure of easy money is too tempting to resist.
The reason only for this book, I’m thinking, is the same reason Michael Critchon wrote “The Lost World”: because producers expressed interest in making another movie and paid the author tons of money to write a book.
About six months or so ago they revealed they were making a Lecter prequel about his younger days, so I’m not surprised by this book.
Hannibal was so terrible that I hope the manuscript never makes it to print. It ruined my whole appreciation for Thomas Harris as a writer.
