New Thomas Harris book

I plan to buy it. How about you?

Library for me, I’m not risking first run hardcover money on him anymore. I do plan on reading it as soon as I can take a crack at it, but no breath is being held over here.

After Hannibal, I’m convinced that Harris is just milking his most famous character for all he’s worth. I’ll pass, unless I start hearing that it’s awesome and it’s way better than the last book.

I can’t wait and I think the book will be good. The movie on the other hand I’m not sure. It will be pretty much impossible to live up to Hopkins’ portrayal of such a great character. But I’m hoping the new guy will surprise me.

My nephew is getting it and I’m next in line to read it. Hope it’s good!

I really liked Brian Cox in Manhunter.

Hopkins was of course excellent, he says he read the part and knew exactlly how to play it. Cox is scary just sitting there with a barrier between him and Will Graham.

Gaah. I probably will eventually, because I like the Lecter character and I’ve wanted an origin story since forever. But I find Harris’ writing style irksome, so I can’t bring myself to buy it on the release date, nor as hardcover.

Hannibal Lecter is probably the only character I enjoy more in the theater than in books.

I’ll probably get it through a book club.

I dunno. I loved the Red Dragon. Silence of the Lambs was excellent too. But I was dissappointed with his last book.

None-the-less, yeah, I’ll probably buy it.

I nominated Hannibal in the worst books thread, and yet…I put a hold on the new book at my library.
I’m ninth in line for it, so I figure I’ll have plenty of time to hear if it’s a stinker before it comes to me.

Looks like Mr. Harris might not be able to buy a new Jaguar this year.

I hear he’s working on another prequel called “Embryonic Journey”, wherein he eats his own placenta. Movie music by Jefferson Airplane, natch.

Harris or Lecter?

Great, now I’ve got Doris Day singing “Embryonic Journey” stuck in my head.

I’m a cheap bastard, so I’ll buy it – when it hits paperback.

I was excited about this, but then I read an excerpt. I’ll probably wait until someone – from here, not the horror boards (they love everything) – tells me it’s great.

Definitely getting it.

I think “Hannibal” was overly criticized. Parts of the book are very thoughtful and interesting, especially the parts about Clarice Starling’s unfortunate shooting incident and the repercussions thereof. Granted, the ending was a bit over the top…

But I think Harris is actually underrated. “Black Sunday” is just terrific, and is just as current now as when it was written. Maybe more so.

I nominate that statement for “Most Subtle Straight Dope Pun” of 2006.
