New MacBook Pro -- Cannot enter password

The keyboard on my MacBook Pro failed. I took it to the shop, but won’t get it back for a week. In the meantime, I bought a new 13" MacBook Pro so that I can do my job.

I have to enter my password when the computer goes to sleep. No problem, but I went to System Preferences so that I would not have to do that. To make the change, I have to enter my password. It won’t let me enter my password. When I click on the password box, I don’t get the cursor. If I try to type anyway, the computer pings to say, ‘You can’t do that.’

Fix, please?

Um… I seem to have fixed the password issue. I don’t know how. Something about entering my Apple ID somewhere… which I don’t think makes sense for an administrator password.

But as long as I’m here…

My Bluetooth mouse is not connecting. It worked fine on the other computer. I can use a wired mouse, but I’d really prefer to use the wireless.
