Has some video content (including a teaser trailer) and some blogging from people involved in production and writing. It’s set to premiere next spring. I can only hope the fat fucking pervert has decided to hold off on releasing the next book until the series begins and is just sitting on a finished manuscript. Otherwise, I predict HBO will be finishing this series for us.
I hope they do it right and have GoT take two or three short seasons to play out and not try to do one book a season.
I also hoped that Martin wasn’t lying when he said that book five was 99% finished at the time that 4 was published, so clearly I am living in a dream world.
So…has anyone seen any of the actors playing the Lannister siblings on-set yet? The only pictures I’ve seen of the actors indicate that they all have dark hair, and if they’re not dyed blond it’ll show an a lack of understanding of the siginificance their hair color has in the book.
If you check out the video on the link Drain Bread provided (you have to scroll down a bit) there is a don’t-blink-or-you’ll-miss-it glimpse of Lena Headey as Cersei Lannister. Blonde and everything! (about 1:12)
I’m curious how they handle the flashback scenes. I suggested, way back when they were first casting for this, that to save money they should have whoever plays Renly also cast as Flashback Robert. Maybe stick a beard on him or something.
My biggest curiosity is how they’re going to cast Brienne if they get to the second book. I can’t imagine a casting call for a 6’3" pug-ugly woman is going to get many takers.
I’m always amused when people say “Oh, they’ll never get an actor to respond to ‘we need some really ugly fat chick with one eye’!” Actors want to act. Some of them are six feel tall and dog ugly. (Some are little people, like Peter Dinklage, who doesn’t seem to have a hard time getting roles.)
Good! Thanks for the tip. I hate it when they change what color hair the characters in books have when it’s unimportant to the plot (Thornbirds, Dresden Files) let alone when there’s a point to it.
They never get ugly casting right anyway. Hermione from Harry Potter was supposed to be buck-toothed with frizzy hair, but the actress never even came close to that description. I’d be surprised if they actually managed to cast Brienne correctly.
I dunno, Kathy Bates seems to get plenty of work - the thing is, they seem capable of casting older ugly people right but never do it with young characters.
As long as it’s an actor who can portray the emotional depth of the character (plus the physicality of course), I wouldn’t worry too much about appearance.
Don’t forget Charlize Theron as serial killer Aileen Wuornos in Monster. And Robin Weigert made a convincing Calamity Jane in Deadwood. Add a little blotchiness and pimpling to the skin, ruin the hair a bit and a director can “plain down” a pretty actor pretty easily. (Hopefully, they’ll cast someone without a surfeit of vanity for the role.)
Gabrielle Reece is 6’3…tall enough? I think she’s built for it, too, and the net says she does acting…don’t know how MUCH acting, but her face, when not smiling, is plenty strong enough, I think.
