New Masses Journal - Where?

Greetings all -

I’m fairly good at searching the Web, but I’ve hit a wall.

I am looking for a copy of a journal titled “New Masses”. It was (maybe still is) the journal of the American Communist Party.

I am specifically looking for the 12/13/1938 issue.

Can anyone help me or know a search tool that I haven’t tried? I’ll take a library copy - but would actually like a copy for myself.

No, I am not communist. The Journal contains an advertisement for a concert at Carnegie Hall that I would like to own.

Thanks -

Not to dissuade you, but in practical terms the real world chances of this this old journal being accessible on the net are slim and none. You might get lucky but a trip to the Library of Congress or a large University library might be of more use.

Here is a collection that contains it.

The Collection
Reference Center for Marxist Studies

"A major area of the library’s holdings is the collection of periodicals, some quite rare, with bound volumes of journals like The Masses, The New Masses, The Liberator, Communist International, INPRECOR, Labor Defender, Labor Herald, Young Worker, Harlem Quarterly, The Crusader. An immense index is available allowing subject and author access to much of the periodical literature of the movement through the mid 50’s.

The Center provides professional on-site reference assistance as well as fielding research inquiries sent by post or e-mail. The collection itself is non-circulating but photocopying is available.
