To limit the proliferation of the “Ask the Gay Guy”, “Ask the Pro Wrestler”, “Ask the Commie Bastard” threads on other message boards, why dont you set up an “ASK THE EXPERTS” message board for these kinds of threads?
I love these threads, but I think a seperate board would work really good.
Although i don’t really like those “Ask the insert whatever here” kinda threads, Theuglytruth just might be on to something here. I’ve seen a bunch of those things pop up lately and just might warrant it’s own forum. Now, i don’t know how much work it would involve to change the site around to add a new forum, but i bet it would have quite a following. If it’s a major deal to add a forum, i say nay. but on the other hand, if it’s fairly easy to add a forum, give it a shot for a couple of weeks, and if it doesn’t pan out, kill it. This is IMHO of course.
Not a bad idea. You could have a running “Ask the Techie” thread (see my other thread here in ATMB) in the new forum that a few of us could help “moderate”. At least it will open up MPSIMS and GQ for items more suited to those forums.
That would imply they were a tech. How would we know they are real ones? What’s to keep people from creating silly subjects like “ask the purple grey ghost?”
The Technology forum is not a new idea, I asked for one before under computer technology…
Well, I haven’t read all of the “Ask the …” threads in MPSIMS, but most of the times, the … would give his/her qualifications in the OP. So, the techies would state their qualifications. Seems simple.
And, mock not the Invisible Pink Unicorn.
Heck, just look at any GQ thread… People are always claiming qualifications, with no evidence that the unqualified can easily evaluate. If a person claims to be, say, a lawyer, and says a certain thing is illegal, I have no way of knowing if it’s true, unless I know a bit of law myself, or I just take the word of that person. For the most part, folks seem to be honest: I’ve never seen any GQ threads where a person claimed qualifications that were later disproven.
Also, I doubt that there’s any given question for which this board doesn’t have at least two experts (well, three, if you count Cecil), so you can always get a second opinion. If all of the lawyers on the board agree that a certain thing is illegal, for instance, I can probably rely on that.
