New Orleans (French Quarter) Restaurants?

Yeah, it definitely had something for everyone. The best part was just wandering around seeing the sights.

Also, my husband and I both have horrible seasonal allergies, but neither of us had any problems in NO. I never sneezed once, not even when we visited the big park in front of the cathedral where lots of flowers and trees were in bloom. I’m not sure what kinds of trees are prevalent there, but I guess we need more of them in Houston.

cbawlmer, I’m so glad you and your friends had a good time!

Not sure why I didn’t notice you being from the Houston before. Currently waving from the Cy-Fair area

cbawlmer, did anyone ask you about your shoes? IME, they tend to ask this to men more than women. It’s a really odd scam that I’ve never seen outside of NO but I hear it all the time when I’m there.

flickster, I also live in Cy-Fair!

Nobody tried the shoe scam or any other scam on anyone in our group. With the exception of one cab driver, everyone we ran into was cheerful and friendly. And many of them were drunk!

Heh, yet another Cy-Fair resident checking in.

We’ve not visited N.O. since Katrina but did enjoy The Redfish Grill in the Quarter and, of course, Emeril’s a short cab ride from there. Good eats, all.

Bit of a bump, but I’m now in New Orleans. Only managed to have one meal so far; went down to Coop’s Place on a recommendation. (I forgot to print the thread and didn’t get the laptop turned on until recently.) Not sure what I’ll do about the rest of the week as I am basically on a business trip after all. However, I did promise myself that I’d get a muffaleta to take on the plane back (if not sooner.)

SO and I just returned from NO Monday - it was a blast! We went to one of the larger corner ones for lunch before going on the hauntedhistory tours (highly recommended if you like history & ghost stories!) - the fried oysters were yummy! Wasnt too impressed with the muff, but only because I dont care for salami or green olives.

Sorry, dont recall the name =( All I remember is that it wasnt on bourbon st and they only had french onion soup and jambaliya for soups (I really wanted to try some turtle soup). They did have an awesome roast beef sandwich (it looked awesome anyways) & the fried oysters were really good.

What about John Besh’s place?

A nit - jambalaya isn’t soup. It’s closer to paella in concept - rice with meats (often sausage and chicken). There are two basic types: creole style (which is made with tomatoes) and cajun style (which is made without tomatoes).

You may have been thinking of gumbo, which is a type of thick soup.

nope, not a gumbo - and it was listed under the soup section (which threw me off since I know what jambalaya is… but I figured, what the hell do I know, I’m from the North originally)

anywho - their prices were very reasonable compared to some of the other places we went (when we go back, will definately find the place again!)
