A new animated series is starting on Amazon Prime in December 10th. The show is called Secret Level. It has a basis in popular video games and is from the people behind LOVE DEATH + ROBOTS.
The trailer looks great and if the show is anywhere near as good as LD+R, this will be amazing.
I’m not quite sold on the idea, but like it. Looking at the episode list I saw most potential in “The company we keep” based on The Outer Worlds, so started there.
Looked gorgeous. Pulled off the “retro futuristic like Fallout but with Art nouveau rather than early cold war” look better than the game in some ways. The horrors of Robber Baron capitalism was an ever present current in the game, but was mostly talked about or hinted. Not here, but I guess when you have 15 minutes to tell your story, too much subtlety is a hindrance.
I enjoyed all of the stories even if I didn’t know the games themselves. Being a RPGer, loved the DND one. The pacman one was good! A lot to enjoy and as @Chelonaut said, they are short so it’s not a big time commitment.
I have been watching this but mostly sticking to the games I know so far. The D&D was a good adventure story. Pac Man was gloriously surreal and crazy in all the best ways. The Outer Worlds episode was horrifying and trying to be darkly funny but for me was just sad and depressing without a satisfying ending.
I haven’t watched it yet but apparently one of the episodes is a game that only lasted a month last year (Concord).
I am glad this was renewed. We need more Anthology series.
