This site has some nice stills from season 2 of Game of Thrones.
The four new characters are PERFECT! May not be 100% as I imagined them, but still really good. They did a great job with Brienne (and I am DAMN curious to hear how they pronounce her name…will it be like Bree-en (rhymes with bee ten,) Bree-anne…more like Brian, which could play off the “looks rather manish” thing?
In case you can’t tell who is who…and even though you know the previous characters I’ll name them anyway so as not to confuse anyone.
(from top to bottom)
Mellisendre and Stannis Baratheon
Brienne
Jon Snow
Bran and Hodor (Hodor Hodor!)
Theon Greyjoy
Renly Baratheon
Balon Greyjoy
Cercei Lannister (making her patented ‘constipation face’ yet again…)
Tyrion Lannister
Sansa Stark
Joffery Lannister/Baratheon
Daenerys Targaryen
Ser Davos
Arya Stark (hair short, but not as short as in the book…correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t she supposed to be shaved nearly bald?)
Dany again…for some reason…
Catelyn Stark
Season premier is April 1st…and God help HBO if they pull an April Foo’s joke on us!
Wow, I seriously didn’t recognize Arya at first. I don’t recall the book saying anything about her being shaved nearly bald, but it’s been a while since I read them, so it’s possible.
Except for Melissandre, the new characters are pretty much exactly as I imagined. For some reason she doesn’t seem quite as striking as I’d expected. I think maybe because I’d always imagined her in a brighter red, and the more muted burgundy dulls the whole image of her.
Arya looks very boyish. I didn’t buy her being called in season one, but this works.
Brienne looks fucking fantastic. I know a lot of the fandom were worried about her, but she’s perfect. In the audio-books they pronounced it BRY-eeen, which I hated. They pronounced Petyr differently in the audio-book than the TV show, so I’m hoping they continue with that trend.
No shots of Karl Davies who plays Alton Lannister (who is a blended character I believe, not in the books). He tends to be billed as “former soap star” however . I saw him last week in an all male production of A Winters Tale playing the dual roles of Cleomenes and the Young Shepherd. He has also appeared in Kingdom as Stephen Fry’s sidekick. I’m pleased to report that he has quite a bit more about him than former soap star suggests.
Loras is in the first GoT series anyway since he’s Roberts page and bonks Cersei a few times.
I can’t think of any other Lannister but Kevin.
EDIT: Apparently the conjecture is that he is Cleos Frey who has a Lannister mother, presumably they didn’t want to have to explain it in the limited airtime.
I didn’t mean Loras, I meant Lancel…but you’re right (and made the same mix up as me…too many similar names! :p) he was already in the first season.
Hmmm…combining Cleos and Kevin? Wondering how that would work since (spoiler for season 2/book 2…possibly season 3, I can’t remember which book it’s in)
Cleos dies trying to escort Jamie back to King’s Landing. Seems like it would be easier to just not have a Cleos…or I guess they won’t have him die if they keep him named Kevin?
Edit: Oh, I see…not combined with Kevin, but a combo of Cleos and someone else less important…got it.
