See the following for one example:
Say, can we have a ban on threads about psychos doing fucked up stuff to kids? There’s just absolutely no fucking need whatsoever to spread that kind of news about.

As opposed to any of the other strange shit people talk about? You don’t ask much, do you?
I saw that thread. I decided that I did not wish to know about it. Therefore I did not open it, any more than I clicked your link.
Why should anything other than clear labeling of the contents be necessary?
Wait, you’re asking for another rule? Srsly?
Well, you know, it would be really great if people would stop putting the graphic details right in the title or in the mouseover area.
I don’t care if you all want to have an eleven page discussion about it. I just won’t read the thread. But I don’t want to be involuntarily subjected to descriptions of exactly what happened. It’s just really upsetting.
“Strange” is one thing. Threads like the one linked to in the OP are quite another.
I don’t know if there’s an appropriate label for threads about mad, cannibal mothers devouring their babies fucking brains right out their fucking head but I defy you to find a single non “R.O.” thread with similarly stomach-churning subject matter.
It’s true that a lot of strange shit gets discussed in the Pit and, generally speaking, I don’t begrudge anyone a word of it. My point is that some “R.O.” threads go way beyond “strange”. Some shit just shouldn’t be posted about. It’s sickening, and it demeans everyone involved.
I haven’t read the thread either. I opened it to get the URL for the link but I didn’t read past the OP. I still know what happened and I really didn’t want to.
Srsly. And it should be noted that my advocating this rule doesn’t mean I necessarily agree with all the others.
[SUB]EDITED TO ADD:[/SUB]
Damn right!
There’s the current stool scale thread, the many TMI threads (Including one in which a poster revealed he had performed analingus on a dog) , pan fried semen, orange and black semen, and many more.
As you’re relatively new here, I’ll forgive your oversight.
If the title doesn’t accurately describe what’s in the thread, then delicate people will open it and complain that they weren’t warned about the graphic content.
Do you and the OP also avoid going to news sites? They also use graphically descriptive article titles.
I would agree on a ruling that titles be less graphic.
However, I may be a sick nut job, but I want to read and discuss such events. I find it psychologically fascinating and I consider it important that I personally not turn a blind eye towards some human behavior just because I would prefer it not happen. You don’t have to agree. You do not, however, have the right to prevent me from doing so because it makes you squeamish.
Besides, where would you draw the line? All killing of infants? Killing of anyone? Or just the particularly distasteful murders?
In short, you’re a grown up. You’re aware there are sick fucks in the world and you will occasionally be made freshly aware of that fact. Deal with it.
Edit: I think there’s a happy medium between non-descriptive and graphic titles. How about: woman kills infant, gruesomely. Something like that that conveys that it is disturbing but not subjecting those who would prefer not to encounter them to the specific details.
Hey, I’ve got no problem with you all discussing that. I firmly disagree with the OP on the “some things shouldn’t be posted about” thing.
I just find this sort of thing *intensely *disturbing. When I’m here, I’d simply appreciate being given the option of whether I want to read about it or not.
One of the greatest things about the Dope is that we talk about anything and everything. Another of the greatest things is that these discussions are organized into threads so those of us who don’t want to discuss or read about something can easily avoid it.
Less graphic titles and/or titles with warnings would allow the discussions to continue without freaking people like me right out.
Do you really think biological functions are in the same category as gruesome mutilations and murders? Not that performing analingus on a dog is a biological function. Unless you’re the dog in question.
Why not a warning in the title, sort of like TMI warnings? Like “Warning–graphic” or something. It’s just courteous.
I don’t go to any that are THAT graphic!
Yep. That’s what I’m talkin’ about!
