New RUSH Album!

I just received the following message from the Geddy Lee mailing list (indeed, it is the ONLY message I have ever received from that list, which I didn’t even remember having signed up for):

The wait is over! Rush have just announced details of their eagerly awaited new album, VAPOR TRAILS. The 13-track collection - produced by Rush with engineer Paul Northfield (Marilyn Manson, Hole) - is set for release on May 14th.

VAPOR TRAILS sees the legendary power trio - Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, and Neil Peart - redefining their intensely individualistic music, blending their famously complex dynamics with driving melodic hooks and a passionate, personal lyrical approach. Tracks like the kinetic “How It Is,” the emotive “Sweet Miracle,” and the propulsive album-opening “One Little Victory” are angular, atmospheric and altogether extraordinary. With the visionary new VAPOR TRAILS, Rush has taken a bold step forward, making it clear that one of rock ‘n’ roll’s all-time great bands are more than just back, they’re better than ever.

The album will be heralded by the single, “One Little Victory,” slated to ship to rock radio outlets nationwide on March 29th. The band is currently finalizing plans for a major North American tour. Tentatively set to kick off in late June, the trek will mark Rush’s first live performances since July 1997. The tour’s first leg will be announced shortly.

VAPOR TRAILS is Rush’s 17th studio recording, and their first all-new collection in over 5 years. The Canadian trio’s 22 albums have all been certified RIAA gold-or-better, with cumulative worldwide sales of over 35 million. Their most recent Anthem/Atlantic releases are 1996’s gold-certified TEST FOR ECHO, followed by 1998’s gold-certified multi-disc live set, DIFFERENT STAGES.

So they are apparently following in Douglas Adams’ footsteps and adding a fourth part to a trilogy. I can’t believe we’ll have to wait 'til May when they’re releasing a single this month!

so now we know! thanks!

huge rush fan, but kinda lost track of them around “roll the bones”. didn’t care too much for the newer stuff and lost interest, didn’t buy any new albums. i heard that geddy has a solo album, have you listened to it? is it worth a hoot?

reviews, please!

When that album comes out I will be on it like white on rice.

I have to disagree with Gatop however. For my money I think that Rush’s best Albums have been released from the nineties on (moving pictures excepted). I think that their best songs were released prior to then, but in terms of complete albums that I can put on and listen to, and enjoy, every song from start to finish they haven’t disappointed me from Roll the Bones on.

I don’t actually own Geddy Lee’s solo album (entitled “My Favorite Headache”), but a friend of mine has it and I’ve heard it on numerous ocasions. I really can’t give you a detailed review from memory, but I will say that I much enjoyed it. If you like Rush’s “Test For Echo” lbum (their last one, released in 1996), then you’ll find much to like in Lee’s solo effort. It’s sonically similar to a lot of the things Rush has done in the last decade, so if you’re more a fan of the classic Rush sound of the '70’s, you might be somewhat disappointed. Still, it’s on my wish list of albums I need to get around to buying.

Hot dam! Time to break out the 'ol zippo and the black concert t-shirt!

Rock on!

Screw “Fear”. When are they gonna get back to the “Gangster of Boats” trilogy???

Yeah, I know. I keep trying to figure out what the lyrics are about.

I am so excited about this new album, I may pee my pants. Or maybe it’s just that 32 oz. Diet Coke.

Seriously, I can’t wait to hear it, and over at Geddy’s web site there is some great discussion going on about Vapor Trails.

Mars
who puts the “fan” in “fanatic”

As far as Geddy’s solo album, yes, I have it and have actually had it in my car since it came out (not always actually IN the CD player, mind you, but always in the car) while I’ve swapped out many other CDs in that time.

It’s not quite Rush, but it’s almost as good.

I thought for sure that Rush was a goner, and now, this Great news! Actually, I haven’t liked too much of them since Cold Fire, (cant think of what the album was) but at least I can see them live.thanks for the update.

There is a demo of the new Rush single “One Little Victory” available on Counterparts, located here. I’ve given it a listen, and I love it. The style is very aggressive, if your favorite Rush tunes are the mid 80’s synth heavy ones, you may be disappointed. OTOH, I am in love all over again.

Note: As it is a demo, the quality suffers. The final track will be much clearer and polished.

Everyone head over to http://www.2112.net/powerwindows if you’re interested in a peek at the cover art and three two-minutes clips from three different songs on the new album (Nocturne, Earthshine, and Freeze). Also available is a very clean .mp3 of One Little Victory.
