New series on AMC - Humans

In the feisty Adult Mode sense …

Ep 7 was pretty disturbing, with its dystopian vision of a dark future were sentient machines run Windows 8

A subtle point you may have missed - it’s not set in the future.

From Wikipedia:

With one epi to go in the UK (tomorrow night) the ratings have really held up well for a smaller broadcaster and … the show has been renewed

Yep. It’s called an “parallel present”.

The reveals have made me less sympathetic to the hooker bots and smash club bots, we now know they are not sentient at all, the only sentient bots are a select group one of whom is not even a bot but a cyborg.

That sounds like you’re around E4 or E5.

In the US, we’ve seen five episodes. Episode 6 airs tomorrow night (Sunday night).

Oh okay. Well, fwiw, I thought it dipped just a little in the middle but I did like E7.

But they never claimed the general synths were sentient - in fact, they’ve talked at length about how they’re not sentient at all.

Which makes it interesting that a lot of people in the show still treat them as, well, people, just because they look the same.

Last episode in the UK tonight. I’m really looking forward to it - they’ve made a decent story out of a pretty standard scenario, IMO, and the direction and acting has brought it up a level too.

Getting a bit tired of that kitchen/diner extension, though.

E8: I saw the headline in a review that said ‘Satisfying’ and that seems about right. It does all come together.

Nice twists with a few of the characters.

Bring on S2.

This wasn’t one of the better episodes. The wife’s almost instant conversion to a Mia/Anita defender is not too believable. I wish the writers would stick to the more mundane aspects of synth/human interactions instead of this “band of brothers” synth arc. I really find that guy who’s supposed to be the son really, really annoying. Please kill him off soon.

I think it dips a bit in the middle. Won’t change your life but worth sticking with.

Are we talking episode 6? If so, I completely disagree - it was probably my favorite. It adds in a lot of back story that illuminates otherwise slightly questionable character actions. The origins of Niska’s little hostility issues, Laura’s over-the-top reaction to Anita at first, the nature of the bond between Mia and Leo, Anita/Mia’s maternal instincts with Sofie. I liked the Mia/Leo relationship reveal the best, but Niska’s went the farthest towards explaining her vaguely psychopathic character.

What I just found out and am now rather annoyed about is that fucking AMC has been cutting whole scenes for the sake of, presumably, more commercial time. That fills me with grrr . Now I have to hunt down the BBC originals on the last couple to re-watch them properly. Also this two episode-delay sucks.

If you want a reliable *download" option feel free to message me.

I could buy it. Earlier we learned that she’s a lawyer of some sort and earlier there was a scene in which she interviewed a woman who wanted to bring her synth to a play. So I could see her as a defender of human rights/civil rights for synths.

It’s so funny you should mention that because I was thinking last night that they must be cutting stuff to fit it into 1 hour of US TV time.

But the show didn’t air on the BBC. Instead it aired on Channel 4, which I believe has commercials. And looking at the Channel 4 website, the episodes range from 45:48 to 47:30 in length. So it may not be necessary to cut them to run on AMC.
