Alright, I’ll be the lone voice of dissent on the tremorviolet shoes.
Dude, I looked through your pictures. You have GORGEOUS shoes. You’re also really cute.
But I think those teacup shoes look like beautiful museum pieces than something I’d wear out. If anything, I’d display them in my house in some way.
It’s the teacup handle on the back for me that takes it from “inspired by” to straight up unwearable. I feel like you need a marie antoinette dress, a painted on dimple and a white beehive wig to pull those off.
I am DROOLING over those shoes tremorviolet. I think I’ll probably dream about them tonight.
I haven’t bought any FM shoes lately, just some zippy shoes for summer: these in bright green and blue, which is way cuter than the earthtones they’re coming in this year. (Got mine at TJ Maxx for more than half off!)
I have a hard time finding shoes, too, because I wear size 5 1/2 Wide. If they aren’t wide they are too tight on the sides. I can’t go up to 6 because they are usually too big on the ends. I also have flat feet and must have arch supports. Since I rarely wear girly shoes I usually end up buying a kid’s 4 or 4 1/2 because they tend to be wider for some reason. I usually am only buying sneakers, sandals or clogs so I can usually find them in kid’s sizes, finding them without Barbie, My Little Pony or Dora the Explorer on them are a little harder.
Haze, I drooled over your shoes when you posted the link in the MMP!
tremorviolet, those shoes are quite gorgeous!
These are on my wishlist for next month, after I get my first full salary from my new job. Then I will be able to afford not just the shoes, but the international shipping from the UK!
I hate to say it because they were really expensive and y’all will probably go all NightRabbit on me and think less of me for spending so much on shoes. But they’re at Saks, Miu Miu is the label. They also come in red.
That’s kinda what I was thinking (thank you very much for the compliment, BTW). I wear most of my shoes to work and I’d never wear these even tho’ they’re so pretty. I have a big, fancy wedding to go to Saturday but I was going to wear this dress and they don’t go with it.
Plus, if I returned them, I could probably get multiple less expensive shoes. I’ve been looking at these pink pumps, these gold and silver pumps and these wedges.
OK, they came. They aren’t as round in the toe as I had hoped, but maybe that’s only a problem for me when I look straight down- from the front they look better. Also, they are maybe half a size too small- but even so I can tell that they are comfortable.
I already sent them back- Zappo’s is amazing for that, I am sold as far as that goes, but I’m on the fence trying to decide whether to try this model in a larger size or go wiith something else. These look nice, and they come in WW width, but I’m a little concerned about how the color would look with a white dress. I’d totally do the red patent, but my bridesmaids are going to be in different shades of green and my dress will have a green waistband- I don’t want to be all “Christmas in August”.
Anyhow, here are my pics. Get them while they’re hot- the rest of the album is art stuff so I don’t want to leave wedding crap up too long. Ignore my scary skin and let me know what you think! tremorviolet, that is a fabulous dress. I like the pink twisty pumps better than the teacup ones.
Margo, are those character shoes … like for the stage? Is that what you’re going for? I think they’re fun and cute, if you’re going for that look, but to me I’m reminded of tap class!
Wait – they’re for your wedding? Is the dress floor-length?
Buying well-made expensive articles is well worth the cost. You get what you pay for. Those shoes are a beautiful piece of art, and it would be a crime not to show them off.
Yes, they’re character shoes- I’ve always loved that look, but I’m afraid these are a bit too “tap-class” as you say. My dress is knee-length, and I’d link a picture but it isn’t going to be made until June. It is a sort of sheath style with a sort of a-line skirt. It’s going to be white linen (not blinding white) with a green waistband. We’re going for a dolled-up but casual atmosphere, since it’s happening on his parent’s farm- outside if it’s nice, in a tent if it rains. That’s why I need chunky heels- I won’t be able to avoid the grass.
I’d never heard of Naughty Monkey before last month, when I bought a pair (on sale, yay!) at Nordstrom’s. I wasn’t sure about them at first, but they met all the requirements (I needed a burgundy pump, which wasn’t easy to come by with all the summer sandals coming out) and I really like them now.
Anyone got recommendations on a really comfortable brand of heels? The time has come for me to professionalize my wardrobe, but I’m 5’10" and heavy and my size 11 wide feet are not going to be happy about leaving sneakers behind. I’m having a hard time finding enough shoes in my size to do some comparison shopping. Ordering a bunch of stuff online just to return it again is not appealing. Help!
There are plenty of professional-looking shoes with low and/or chunky heels. For me the comfort factor isn’t really connected to the height of the heel but the width.
tremorviolet, I’ve spent hundreds of dollars on a pair of sunglasses. No judgement here, I assure you!
The shoes I linked to above are the most expensive “accessory” I’ve ever bought- I have some jewelry that is reasonably pricey, all gifts, and my Dad bought me a pair of $130 running shoes 2 years ago (“so I wouldn’t risk my feet in cheap shoes”- thanks Dad!). My frugality cred established, I agree with HazelNutCoffee: I’m sure that those shoes are worth whatever you paid for them- at least to you. Don’t listen to the jerks in that purse thread- between your shoes, your dresses, your blisters and your muscles (I looked at the rest of your photos, too), you’re fast becoming my hero!
I still don’t particularly like the shoes, but I’m sure they’d come alive on your feet, even twice a year.
They’re cute and look functional. I’m tempted to suggest you try to find shoes to match your sash, but finding that certain shade of green might be more of a headache than it’s worth.
Actually, if I find ones that I love the shape of, I am seriously considering getting them dyed to match the sash. If I go with the Capezios, I think I’ll get a thin rubber sole put on -they are very slippery and I’m a huge clutz (witness the swollen left ankle in the pics)- so I could probably get them dyed by the same shoe repair place. My guy thinks that’s insane, but he is very practical in his tastes, so that’s neither here nor there. I’d also be more likely to wear green shoes than white after the wedding, so that’s definitely a consideration. I wouldn’t do the dyeing until after the dress is made, though. Maybe that will be another thread.
That’s actually a lovely idea! I’m all for shoes that stand out with a wedding dress. White shoes with a white dress seems a bit too staid (for me, anyway).
