New smiley suggestion

If there’s room for any additional smilies, how about one showing a red-faced donkey, for when people want to indicate that they realize they posted something incorrect or stupid.

Come up with a good ORIGINAL design for it and we’ll cache it here on the site.

Original work only please.

You might want to talk to tshirts, he’s our smiley maven.

I’ve been intending to design and submit a smilie to be used for this purpose, but I haven’t gotten around to it. My plan was to do a standard smilie wearing a dunce cap. I guess I’d better do that soon, before someone else does.

I like the way the smiley you suggested sounds, but after a few thoughts on it I realized it would be possible one of two ways.

One way would be an outline of a donkey. I added a quick draft to my web site for your amusement.

The other would be just a face, to get more expression, but the size contraints on a smiley are pretty severe. It might end up looking like a bear or something else. If you email me something you’ve drawn or seen somewhere, we can pursue this.

You should realize, that the odds are not good getting any new smilies. Only two were ever added.

I first submitted one in April and crossed my fingers.
I tried several times after that, fingers now stuck permanently crossed.
I was encouraged when Arnold Winkelried suggested one.
I was encouraged when Chronos emailed me one, which I posted.
I was encouraged when Lynn Bodoni said “I really got a kick out of that sideways smilie. It took me back to typing class.”
I’ve been encouraged several times by TubaDiva.

Despite the odds it’s still fun to suggest things and see what’s been suggested, so keep sending ideas.

[sub]{note to 2sense- I just saw your suggestion for a smiley wearing a halo when I searched today. Check the link below tomorrow.}
{note to Saltire- There’s no reason there can’t be many variations of each emotion.
The work of adding two or twenty is nearly identical for SDMB. All the real time is in everyone’s drawings.
Be sure to post it, or send me a copy and I can add it to the link below.}[/sub]

Looks great! and the transparency worked. I like the rosy cheeks.

Well, they are supposed to look like the dunce is blushing. But I guess ‘rosy’ looks okay.

I’ll e-mail a copy to Tubadiva.

I should try my hand at smiley-making…

Hey, Tshirts, do you know how to set background transparency through Paintshop Pro? I’ve yet to figure it out, myself.

I usually use Microangelo Studios and Animator.

They have a free 30 day trial http://www.impactsoft.com/muangelo/themaster/prodinfo.htm

Sweet, sweet…

I can get emoticons made, it’s just the transparency thing that I can’t do.

Sorry. I haven’t used Paintshop Pro in a while.

(I’ve got Photoshop and MS Image Composer/MS Gif Animator for big stuff, Cinema-4D for 3-D modeling and movie animation
and prefer good old MS Paint and Microangelo for the quick stuff.)

But I did a search and found this for you.
** Transparent GIF Backgrounds**

It has a picture that I read as:
Save as type: GIF-Copmuserve
Sub type: Version 89a - Interlaced
Options/GIF/Set the transparency value to the background color

In searching for you I also passed through these sites, that sounded like fun:

**Paint Shop Pro Special effects Tutorial**

Or, just send it to me and I’ll post it/return it with a clear background, like I did for Chronos.

Oh please.

I’m sincerely sorry that we’ve been more focused on how to keep the system up and going for everybody than attending to these nice little details.

I guess our priorities are just misplaced.

We’ll get to 'em. We wouldn’t ask you for them if we didn’t mean to use them when we can.

We need a “Blown Away In Surprise” smiley, so I can put it here in reaction to all the stuff Tshirts provided just so a silly little boy like me can diddle around with PSP. A billion thanks, 'shirts!!

Damn straight they are. You said you were going to bring me a cup of lemonade MONTHS ago! (In other words, don’t worry too much about it)

**And sorry TubaDiva :frowning: It just came out wrong. **

I do appreciate you’re encouraging me and other people.
Just thought I should warn Lumpy that it’s not a “this week” kind of request.

By the way, if you want the programming done, I’d be happy to do it. I used to code compilers in assembly language and C, so I’m familiar with parsing algorithms. I think I could add icon names and links to a syntax table.
Just a thught.

Ooooh, I just thought of another cool idea for a useful smiley. It wouldn’t really be a smiley, I guess, just something to use to click on for links, for those times when you can’t come up with a way to get the text to flow right. And yes you can link to a smiley.
