I like the Klingons. I was taken aback by how different they look, but hopefully we can all accept that makeup has come about as far since 1987 as it had between 1966 and 1987.
And the crew member who said his species was “biologically determined for one purpose alone: to sense the coming of death.” Ok, that shtick’s gonna get old real fast, but it does raise some interesting questions. For starters, “biologically determined” by whom?
I like the captain, although it looks like the younger officer, Commander Burnham, is going to take over, so who knows if the older captain will stick around after the pilot.
And the line about someone being unable to learn Vulcan because their tongue is “too human.” This is too close in time to TOS for that to be Spock they’re talking about, isn’t it?
Oops! I thought the only thing we’d seen was the teaser with the ship. I remember a thread about that from roughly May, but it didn’t mention any details from this trailer, and I thought I’d read all the SDMB threads about it. I wonder why this just showed up in my social media feed. (Don’t remember where exactly.)
How would that work in terms of evolution; when you sense death you immediately drop trou and have sex with the first thing you see, the ones that can’t sense death just die without passing the trait to their offspring?
Nope. Because that is part of the lore, with the original change established in-universe. And because we’re not pulling from 1987 but 2005. And because they don’t look at all like an evolution of the original design. They are completely different (and seemingly intentionally hideous).
The one thing I’m hoping is that they aren’t Klingons, as they weren’t explicitly stated as such, or that there is some in-universe reason why they are different.
Of course, what I hear now is that this isn’t what we were promised, and this isn’t set in the Prime Universe. While that does mean they are free to redo whatever they want, I’m not interested in yet another Trek universe. Heck, I’m not interested in the movie universe, really.
Didn’t see the trailer before. I like the casting of Yeoh. Don’t care for the school band quality gold trim on the uniforms. Otherwise, not enough information to go on to say anything about whether it will be good or not. If there’s a story, they’re keeping it to their vest.
