New Star Trek Movie?

Has anyone heard anything about a possible new ST movie? One of my brothers read a “wild rumour” on the 'net (no cite - none was provided for me … yet :)) that a new movie was in the works … starring (get this): Shatner (TOS), Stewart (TNG) and Bakula (ENT). My -first- reaction? Hey, they left out Avery Brooks (Sisko, DS9)!!! (Note that I totally leave out Voyager …:D). I dunno though - even if they do have a movie in the works, if it’s being put together by the folks that have been running ST from Voyager forward, I’m not certain I would even want to see it! :frowning: Those MFs (yes, that’s the term I’ve come to call them) totally screwed up Enterprise, IMHO.

At any rate, has anyone heard anything credible about this possibility? Or is it all just a really wild rumour?

Oh, Og, please let it be a rumour.

Well I can’t find anything about it on Startrek.com.

There’s a story on it at Ain’t It Cool, though it’s up to you whether or not you want to call that credible.

B&B at one time said that it would be about war with the Klingons and take place between Ent and TOS, but that was before ENT got cancelled. Unless the film’s called Star Trek: The Apology, I ain’t going to see it.

The last series was pretty bad, I take it? (Haven’t seen it…)

I’ve seen one episode, and it was, IMHO, pretty damned stupid and I saw no reason to watch any others.

There is an IMDB an entry for something called Star Trek: The Beginning, which sure SOUNDS like a prequel, and Rick Berman is coming up with the story.

In all probability “The Beginning” is just a cover title, since this thing is still so early in development. But it does exist nonetheless, and at this point any speculation as to the time period or content of the movie is just that – speculation.

Contrivances to get characters of different eras together are always lame.

Having an ancient Dr. McCoy in the 1st ep of ST:TNG was ok because it was natural, and so was having Spock in ST:TNG since it was pre-established Vulcans have much longer life spans.

But all that trapped-in-a-nexus and stuck-in-a-transporter nonsense is lame, lame, lame.

Kinda. The first season was pretty lame, the second season was mind-numbingly boring. The third season was significantly better, although not really good, and the last season was actually good TV. But no was watching anymore.

there were only 2 reasons to watch it IMHO: Scott Bakula and the puppy

the best episodes were the first 3 of the last 4 - the alternate universe ones
but i think i missed one - what happened after Hoshi took over Enterprise?

The Enterprise spent all its time driving in the left lane at Warp Factor .20.

-Joe, going to hell

That was it. She flew back to Earth and declared herself Empress.

I stopped having anything to do with Trek after I failed the audition to be an alien in Insurrection, but Here’s the most up-to-date unsupported rumor

Which I found by following the link in this article

Which I found with a quick Google after reading this blurb

which can be linked to from SR47’s link.

Little research never killed anyone.

I tried for the longest time. I watched much of the first, third and fourth seasons, missing the 2nd season entirely, I think.

It’s big problems were that:

1.) I can recognize the cast list from every othere star trek series, but not this one. There’s something wrong there.

2.) They violated their own premise. They start out: No shields, no transporters, no universal translator. Of course, that didn’t last long. Hoshi gave up translating really quick, they used the transporters a number of times and while there were no shields, the hull plating did exactly the same thing.

3.) They kept introducing stuff that would never been seen in any other incarnation of star trek.

Basically, they decided “Let’s do a prequel, but let’s be really lazy about it”. Instead of trying to fit the series into the trek universe of the other series, they just started throwing in all this other stuff that won’t be seen again.

Well, I don’t think that’s necessarily inaccurate to that world. Think of items first in use at the start of the industrial revolution, in the mid to late 19 century. Some of them never evolved to grow into what we use today - they just disappeared from use altogether. (no, I can’t think of any specifics, and I’m at work so I can’t do web research just now. but later when I am home, I’ll “wiki” up some examples)
