New Star Trek series

All I know is that Rick Berman said in an interview that it was very likely that there would be a new series after Voyager ended next year. He didn’t give any details. I haven’t heard anything else. Anyone heard any rumors about this?

Well the loudest rumors lately have been that the new show will be entitled “Birth of the Federation” which would deal with the time somewhere between Zephram Cochrane, et al, and Kirk & Co.

Sounds like an interesting idea if only I had any confidence in the current crop of writers now responsible for Voyager. What they ought to do is take a break, leave Trek alone for a few years, and get some new people with fresh ideas. But I’m afraid that ain’t gonna happen.

ON the odd occasion that I look for trek news, I like http://www.lcarscom.net/news31.htm

Finally! A chance for that wierd swirly moire’ pattern thing behind spock’s head to be explained. My guess, its a piece of Vulcan Op-Art.

BUT…

If I see one more “Hey look, I have rubber cement on my forehead so I MUST be an alien” aliens, I’m going down to Burbank and personally opening an atomic powered can of whoop ass!

Yeah, I remember the last time I put rubber cement on my forehead and went to the market, everyone assumed I was an alien. I was pretty pissed at how close minded people can be. It’s just rubber cement on my forehead, for crying out loud! It’s not like a third nipple!

i heard possibilities of the next series being about the Academy. sounds like 90210 in the future with com badges.
check out upn9’s site for more details.

If they had asked me (which, of course, they didn’t), I would have advised them to just bring back Deep Space Nine. I think they ended DS9 a bit too prematurely, there was a lot of life left in the series, and the conclusions of the various running storylines seemed rather rushed. They won’t do that, though. By the way, has anything even remotely interesting happened on Voyager lately? It’s been over a year since I even bothered to watch.

i read somewhere that george takei, along with a number of fans, wrote letters and petitioned universal to start a series based on the excelsior (featured in “undiscovered country”). itll be kinda retro to feature that show but i believe it was to “go back to what star trek was like” before the supposed corruption of “deep space nine” and “voyager”.

I don’t really give a crap. I doubt they can come up with another good ST series. I’m only interested in the new TNG movies. Anyone know anything about that?

A friend of mine very closely watches sci-fi news and rumour sites, and even puts out a weekly compilation of the best stories.

So far, 3 possibilities have been in the running:

  1. A series based at Starfleet Academy.

  2. A series based somewhere around the birth of the Federation and/or Starfleet (pre-TOS).

  3. A USS Excelsior-based series with Sulu as the lead.

The Excelsior idea has a lot of grassroots fan support, but I really don’t see this happening, particularly since George Takei isn’t exactly a spring chicken any more. Still, they’ve even gone so far as to picket at Paramount.

I’m thinking the Starfleet Academy one will win out, if not for the young actor spin, they won’t have to go backwards in their technology to do a pre-TOS series.

All of this will probably wait until about two years after Voyager goes off the air (next season is its last).

Esprix

I would like to see another major time jump, to the 29th century and the adventures of the Federation as they try to mop up all the temporal mischief that occured from the 19th to the 24th centuries.

I think an Academy show would be another 90210/Dawson’s Creek/Felicity/Saved By The Bell - The College Years rehash.

I’m still wondering why Tuvok was human in “Star Trek: Generations”. :D:D

AWB is pretty close to what I’ve heard to be the series. (did that make any sense?)

Anyhoo, it’s SUPPOSED to be about a 29th century villian who travels back in time in order to destroy the Federation. The time cops (sorry, no Jean Claude Van-Damme) have to “mop up” the mess the villian makes. This COULD have possibilities, but, then again, so did Voyager.

Apparently, ANYBODY can write for Voyager since there seems to be no one in charge of saying, “I’m sorry, but your story sucks way too much ass for us to produce.”

Trumpy is correct. As far as solid rumours can go, that is the current idea. Set pre-Kirk, the whole timeline we are familiar with comes under threat when this time-jumper from the 29th century starts playing havoc.

It’ll be called Star Trek: Enterprise.

And it’s quite possibly the dumbest idea they’ve ever had.

A friend and I came up with a much much much cooler idea, but ha, no, they’d never do a cool idea like this… If you wanna hear it, just ask.

I heard one rumour that it would be a Section 31/Dulmer and Lucsly type thing (yes, I know they’re not the same). Could be interesting.

I’d like to see show about Starfleet R&D!

I agree that they need to take some time off, though.
