New Star trek Trailer

Yeah, why does the entire crew look 15? Having it be their first mission is one thing. Having them all start their career as the bridge crew of a starship is another.
I’m…WORRIED…it…won’t be…STARTREK…without…Shatner…CHEWING UP…the…SCENERY.

I think it looks really cool. I like Star Trek, but being young Im not really super attached to anything, so i do not care to much about continuity. Honestly I was hoping, when I first heard they were going to make a movie, that they would do Kobayashu Maru (sp?), maybe change the frame a bit. But this looks cool too.

Shatner’s response to the trailer.

I’m Sparticus!

Because you’re old.

Simon Pegg (Scotty): 38yrs
Karl Urban (McCoy): 35yrs
John Cho (Sulu): 35yrs
Zachary Quinto (Spock): 30yrs
Zoe Saldana (Uhura): 29yrs
Chris Pine (Kirk): 27yrs
Anton Yelchin (Chekov): 18yrs

I’d almost forgotten how much I like that theme song.

I’m older than Shaun? Frak.

RE: Duct tape

I used to have “The Nitpicker’s guide to Star Trek” (had to toss them for a move). I think the author mentions that sometimes the crew setting up the stage/scenery sometimes (unintentionally) leaves stuff behind that gets caught on film. Like that roll of duct tape.

Also, sometimes changes would be made to a set that gets missed during filming. (The author mentioned that in The Wrath of Khan, IIRC, there was a spot on the turbolift doors that got covered by duct tape that kept appearing and disappearing (different days, different takes).

There was a blooper I saw many years ago: Hill Street Blues won an emmy. The cast did a little bit of celebrating, then went back to shooting an episode. Except, someone left the emmy statue sitting on a file cabinet in the background. ><

Not too old to captain a starship apparently.

Regardless of how old they actually are, they LOOK like fresh recruits right out of the academy (which is what they are supposed to be AFAIK). They are pretty close to the age of actors who play teenagers on 90201, Gossip Girl or The OC. I mean didn’t Sulu make his name playing a 20-something stoner? They ARE young compared to some other Star Trek captains (all ages at start of series):

Capt Archer - Enterprise - 46yrs
Capt Janeway - Voyager - 40yrs
Capt Kirk (Shatner in TOS) - 35yrs
Capt Picard - Enterprise - 47yrs

Maybe I’m just used to seeing Pattrick Stewart or old William Shatner from the movies, but I would expect that the captain of a capital ship would be a bit more on the mature side.

Tuckerfan’s link makes my point for me. Having younger versions of the same characters in the same exact jobs they’ve always had does make it look a bit “Teen Star Trek”.

Then again, maybe that’s how Star Fleet does it. Once you graduate, you and your classmates are all assigned together on the next ship out of drydock. You all grow old on the same ship together in the same roles for your entire career or until you blow yourselves up. The conflicted rebellious outsider gets to be captain, the football quarterback his XO, the cute girl who threw all the parties gets to be communication officer, the nerd is science officer, all the dorks and losers are stuck as “redshirts” and so on.

This is totally beside the point, but as a Deep Space Nine fan, I couldn’t help but notice you forgot Sisko, msmith.

Description of some scenes Abrams has shown to people. Huge, raw throbbing spoilers in the link. An example:

This is the first scene where the audience will seen Pine as Kirk and it has him in modern looking bar (with some sci-fi touches like menus with animations on them). Although there is much talk about Star Wars, this bar is no Cantina scene, it is very real and it is identifiable as our future. Uhura (Zoe Saldana) is at the bar ordering drinks for her friends when Kirk tries to pick her up. She brushes him off, but seems to be impressed when he is familiar with her field of communications expertise. Kirk is then confronted with four Academy cadets whom he antagonizes further resulting in a bar brawl and Kirk getting beaten pretty badly until Captain Pike (Bruce Greenwood) comes into he bar to break it up. He sits Kirk down (and apparently knows him) and gives him a ‘your dad was a hero on the USS Kelvin and you are wasting your life’ speech and implores him to go to Starfleet Academy. Although Kirk doesn’t give Pike any hope that he is listening, we then see Kirk riding his motorcycle to the “Riverside Shipyards” in Iowa to board the shuttle for the Academy.

twitch

I think the corridors look like the Wildfire base in the Andromeda Strain.

What? He’s alergic to lasers?
Ok nerdos, a couple of things:

Duct tape - It’s really “space duct tape” or “Jeffreries Tube tape” or something. It’s not much of a suspension of disbelief to think that in 200 years rolls of strong non-pourous strips coated with adhesive on one side is still the best tool for sealing minor ventalation leaks and wraping electrical cables. Considering how often one of those panels explodes, I can see why it would be there on the bridge.

Vintage car - There are plenty of people who collect old shit - Model T Fords, old muskets and swords, old sailboats,WW I and WW II aircraft. Ok, no one these days is going to joyride in a 200 year old covered wagon, but what about a replica of a 200 year old sailing schooner? Or an old Spitfire? I don’t think it’s absurd to have a young Kird joyriding in an replica or restored car. And I don’t know shit about Trek continuity, but I think it’s safe to say that if Kirk didn’t know how to drive as an adult, that’s not inconsistant with driving a freakin car off the end of a cliff in the middle of the desert as a child.

Wasn’t he, in the name of parting hairs, a space station commander?

I mean, you’d think captaining a newly-acquired space station far from home near the border of a recent enemy in a contested region of space, on TOP of being a trade hub, would require a certain different set of skills and characteristics perhaps. Indeed, before commanding DS9, he had a posting at the shipyards on Mars, didn’t he? It sounds like he’s taking a different career track than most of the other Captains, at least since the loss of the Saratoga at Wolf 359. geek hat on

But then again, he did spend a lot of time hotrodding around aboard the Defiant.

I didn’t include Sisko because I wasn’t sure if his job as commadore of a space station made it a fair comparison.

At least they kept the red alert wwOOOOOOppp the same.

What would fans do if they de-nerdified Star Trek somehow?
Anyhow, the movie does look pretty cool.
