Take A Load Off - Stone Temple Pilots (Spin magazine exclusive)

As a long time fan of the band, I like the new songs, some of them alot, but it is a bit of a departure. Seems like people either love it or hate it so far, but there’s still 7 songs to go.

Comes out a week from today though (May 25th) and I can’t wait

Is the single that’s getting radio play indicative of the album as a whole?

edit: I guess I should say, what you’re heard of it so far, seeing as the full album isn’t released yet.

I don’t really think so. The only one I would even say is similar is Bagman, and I also think those two are the “worst” of the 5 full songs I’ve heard. I’ve also heard 30 second previews of all but one other song and it seems like a pretty diverse album.

I’ve enjoyed most of their singles - really great songcraft and an interesting blend of heavy and pop. I will probably get this when I add it to my cart with stuff like LCD Soundsystem and Cage the Elephant…

Well, that’s a good sign, then. That “Between the Lines” single makes me cringe every time I hear it.

Hmm, “Between the Lines” is the only one that stands out as particularly good to me. The others are okay, but nothing that really stands out to me.

Huh. My problem with “Between the Lines” is it just sounds like a paint-by-numbers generic hard rock song (that, and the little Nirvana “Stay Away” homage in the bridge annoys me). And the lyrics just kind of bug me. I really liked their work in the mid-to-late 90s, though, staring with Purple.

Sounds awesome! I’m really excited about this album. I agree that Between the Lines is pretty bad lyrically, but I’m willing to overlook that. I think Bagman might be my favorite so far.

Stone Temple Pilots - New Album Streaming

Found a Canadian stream of the new album, and it’s even better than I was expecting!

(not sure if it works in the US or not, but I haven’t seen a link to an American stream yet)

It doesn’t work for me, but I don’t know if that’s because I’m in the U.S. or because I’m at work.

I listened to a little of each track at Amazon, doesn’t really thrill me, but neither has a lot of their post Core stuff. I can appreciate some of their Purple and later stuff more today than when they came out, but it’s still Core that I really wanna listen to.

Well it’s definitely not Core, that’s for sure.
I understand your opinion, but personally I like the fact that they are constantly expanding their horizons with each album. None of them sound exactly like the last and they have shown themselves to be great on alot of levels.
I’m loving this new album, can’t stop listening to it.
