Hm. Interesting. Got any finalized gameplay videos? I may pick this up.
Here’s the official site. If you have the Nintendo Channel downloaded on the Wii, they have a bunch of videos there as well.

I’ve been playing it pretty much all day.
It’s super fun as multiplayer and I love that my fiance (who has a big Mario 3 fan) likes playing it as much as me.
We had a friend over today and we played for four hours straight!
I’ve found that 2 player is good for playing well but 3-4 player is great just for the hilarity. You spend so much time getting in each others’ way and accidentally killing each other. It’s really fun.
I love this game.
I trust y’all are too busy playing this game to comment on it, yeah?
Exactly. I just stopped because all my friends had to leave.
I’m not going to get into a lot of detail because my hands are tired, but I will say this is the most fun I’ve had playing video games or doing anything else since the first one came out back on the NES (which I played this morning to get in the mood.) They hit it out of the park with this one.
But…but…it’s not “mature” and there’s no guns and stuff!! HOW CAN THIS BE?!
Seriously–it’s games like this that remind me of why I play games in the first place. Just a shame they come along so infrequently these days.
Yup. I like it. Quite a bit. I just thought it was alright until the first castle (the real castle, not the mini-castle). Then it did it for me. The lava, the gears, the music.
Mario, how I’ve missed you!
Yeah, it’s great, although my wife and I have decided to play as single players in separate files rather than go through together in multiplayer. Apparently we have exact opposite play styles. Things get a bit frustrating if we play 2-player for more than a little while :).
I played this a lot yesterday with my roommate, it’s fantastic. We tried adding a third player for a while but it was just too much. Sometimes there’s not enough room on the platforms for everybody to fit and unless you know what to expect from the other player’s styles you’ll be knocking each other off all the time. Which can be fun in and of itself but some of the later levels don’t give much room for error.
We had lots of fun doing 4-player last night. Like omgzebras said it’s a bit frustrating because you get in each other’s way so much. But it’s also fun if you don’t take it too seriously and do a little trash-talking.
I wasn’t going to get this, but Fry’s had it on sale for $40 and I couldn’t resist. I played for 3 hours, made it thru World 1, and then stopped because I had Nintendo Thumb, a malady which I’ve not suffered from for more than 20 years.
Welcome back, Mario!
(Srsly, I thought Mario Galaxy was amazing, but this… this is easily the best Mario game since the first Super Mario Bros.)
Beat world 8 today, the last battle with Bowser is really something, the hardest Mario end boss I can remember. Very cool.
Ending spoiler follows…
There’s a bonus world too! Like the Rainbow Road stage of Super Mario World. You have to have all the star coins from a world before you can do its corresponding stage so we could only do the first one. The next few days will be spent getting all those coins we missed along the way. I love this game so much!
How is everyone playing this? I saw someone complaining on another board about it being difficult to carry things using the 2 button, and realized he was playing it with just the controller (sideways). I’m using the nunchuck, just like you’d play Galaxy. It’s a lot more comfortable.
I use the controller held sideways, I haven’t had any problems carrying things and I kinda like using a pad instead of a stick for 2d Mario games.
It’s a 2D side-scrolling game based largely off the NES Mario adventures. If you’re not holding the Remote sideways like an NES controller you’re doing it wrong.
But I agree, having to hold 1 and shake the Remote to carry things is awkward as all hell. Especially when the B trigger is sitting right there unused.
I had a hard time trying to pick up Toad to save him while wearing the propeller suit. I kept flying away instead because he wouldn’t stay still.
Yeah, you HAVE to hold it sideways. In fact, I want to see an old-school NES-style Wii controller for me to play with.
I find it’s way too easy for me to accidentally hit the A button to stick myself in a bubble.
At one point we were in an room filled only with one of those power-up blocks that rotates between different mushrooms. My wife was already in a bubble, and then I hit my A button trying to pop hers. This is not a good thing.
Only complaint on controls so far. The jumping response is different than earlier games, and is taking time to get used to.
I’m also getting many flashbacks to SMB3.
I haven’t tried yet myself, but I hear it doesn’t support the classic controller. Any idea if that’s something that can be fixed?
I’ll just say this game is fantastic, this is the kind of experience on Wii I’ve been anticipating for a long time.
A word of caution though, when holding the controller sideways the reset button is dangerously close to the D-pad. It’s all too easy to rest your thumb a little too far over and lose your progress. This is bad news when coupled with the cumbersome save system. Don’t learn this the hard way like me, after thirty minutes on a hard level getting all the star coins.
Reset button on the remote?
