A book by his bedside labeled “Great Speeches” by A. Hitler is very obviously a reference to the ex-wife saying he kept a book of speeches by Hitler by his bedside, which is something many of us knew about (And I’m positive that it was posted here on SDMB, as I remember reading it linked from here). Just because a reference goes over your head doesn’t mean you get to declare it as bad writing.
There was a ~2010 episode that included flashbacks to 2000:
