Information about a new “Twilight Zone” film here:
Matt Reeves is directing and although I am on record in another SD thread about my dislike of his remake of “Let the Right One In”, I’m not piling on here. I thought “Cloverfield” wasn’t a bad giant-monster-on-the-loose movie. But I’m not encouraged by this; “Though the last Twilight Zone film was an anthology with different directors, this one is a big science fiction action movie with a single freestanding story that is linked to the original series mainly in that it shares that familiarly eerie feel.” (Bolding mine.) Which I read as, it has nothing to do with “The Twilight Zone”, but it’s a popular name that will make our movie easier to market.
“Big science fiction action movie”? In a frantic race against the clock aboard Air Force One, Jeff Goldblum hacks into the alien computer’s recipe files to remove all traces of how to serve man, but they detect the intrusion and try to board the plane. President Vin Diesel steps outside the fuselage to do mano y mano battle with the gremlin on the wing. Victorious, he crawls back inside and passes out. He wakes up after a few moments only to find out… OH NO! I’m Hitler!
Since I liked Cloverfield, though I did feel sorry for and was often rooting for the monster, and I loved Let Me In, I’m pretty happy with this choice. Matt Reeves loves and cares about movies, and he will treat the name and legacy well.
Since a script isn’t even written yet, I’m not sure where that Deadline writer comes up with “big science fiction action movie” (no cite is given) and I’d take that description with a grain of salt.
