I just joined a songwriter’s forum, which had a thread asking for new lyrics for the Cole Porter classic “Let’s Do It, Let’s Fall In Love” (here). It was a lot of fun trying to come up with a verse, and I’d love to see what versions Dopers could come up with.
If you don’t know the song, it was an early “list” song that catalogued various groups who “do it”…“it,” of course, meaning “falling in love.” If you don’t know it, you can familiarize yourself with the song here or here.
Well, here’s what I’ve been able to come up with so far (tougher than it looks…!!):
**At midnight ghosts, ‘neath their sheets do it
Kids demanding trick or treats do it
Let’s do it, let’s fall in love
Witches who ride ‘round on brooms do it
Zombies locked up in their tombs do it
Let’s do it, let’s fall in love
Bram Stoker’s ghoul, it is writ, did it
As he flew around town
Stephen King’s “It” did it –
Not too bad for a clown!
Werewolves who HOOOWL at the moon do it
Kinda makin’ virgins want to swoon to it
So let’s do it, let’s fall in love!**
Apologies- off the top of my head.
=-+====================
Eskimoes without toes do it
Arabs and scarabs eating carobs do it
Let’s do it, let’s fall in love.
Camels in desert heat do it
whether one hump or two
The old woman with the kids did it
it’s how she filled up that shoe.
Canadian geese do it
once a year they go down
Closeted priests do it
when they go out of town.
FDR & Eleanor did it
though with different fe-males
Some say Honest Abe did it
“Hey soldier check out this rail!”
"The Rubbles do it, the Nelsons do it,
In separate beds Ricky and Lucy do it
Let’s do it, let’s babaloo.
The castaways on Gilligan’s Isle do it,
that professor’s a hunk.
Why ask if Skipper and Gil do it,
Little Buddy lower your bunk!
