New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

There are ways to get some of that sort of vibe in regular/heroic instances. Lich King and his girlfriend show up in one of the heroics, the latter helping you escape from the former. Another of the instances has some neat dwarven lore delivered via an NPC…one of the Bronzebeards, I think. Yeah, you ain’t gonna kill Arthas in a 5-man pug, but you can still do stuff that matters, if you can suspend disbelief enough to get into the story of the instances.

Or get into PVP. No qq, more pewpew.

You can also five-man Kael’thas in Magister’s Terrace, no? He doesn’t stay dead, though. They never do.

Probably sacrilege to mention it here, but this is why WoW can never be my only MMO experience. In EVE, they most certainly do (or at least, they aren’t ever getting that particular ship back :D)

I’ve 2-3 manned reg/H MgT before when farming the mount/pet with friends.

BM hunter specced for extreme soloing/PVP with a monkey (although tbh I really would prefer to have a crocolisk… just haven’t gotten to it) can do a buttload of damage.

I usually ran it with an enh shaman and a frost mage, or just the mage. We were in T9 at the time, I believe.

I’d prefer 3 for the H version, but it’s barely doable with 2 strong CC’ers if you’re careful about the pulls. The multiple boss room can be tricky though, it depends on which ones you get.

One more thing to add to the bucket list now that I’ve remembered it exists – I have the pet but not the mount, and besides it’s great CC practice.

Yeah, that’d be a fun thing to do with guildies - farm H-MgT for the mount.

It’s possible, even fairly easy to solo H MgT for many classes, but it does depend on your gear level. For a hunter it should be relatively simple. For an enhancement shaman it’s doable with 245/251 gear, but much easier if you have access to 264/277 stuff. I even see some videos of mages soloing it.

Very good going. When I switched Sleu’s second prof from Herb to JC, I made a stopoff at Mining, so I could stockpile at least some of the mats (and get myself a decent Stam buff to tide me over until I had the mats to level JC all the way to where I could use the Jewelers’ Gems). Even then, having farmed a lot of the mats myself, it took me thousands of gold to buy the rest of what I needed to level all the way to 450 (granted, I did it in one sitting, but).

1.) Them’s the breaks of playing a game with other people. You can’t have 11 million Arthases running around (unless you could DKs with odd characters in their names :p). It would just make the whole thing pointless.

2.) You can still see a lot of amazing content. For instance, there are probably still people running old TBC raids that would be thrilled to have an 80 come join them. Even if your DPS is low for 80 raids, it will almost certainly be high for 70 ones.

3.) There’s no reason BM can’t be a viable raiding spec, at least for PUGs. Granted, there may be different point distributions between what you’d use for soloing, but even with a spec that’s pretty focused on solo play, if you’re picking the right gear and using the right rotation, your damage should be good enough for PUGs. Personally, in a choice between someone who does lower damage but knows the fight mechanics–either through experience or research–and does their job well, and somebody who pumps out high numbers but spends most of their time kissing floor (or, worse, getting other people killed) because they can’t be bothered to do anything but watch the meters… I’d rather have the former.

4.) Since the advent of dual spec, there’s no reason you can’t have a BM spec for soloing and another one (Marks?) for raids.

Tempest Keep was merely a setback!

(BPC is an especially fun fight this way.)

1.) Most WoW bosses do stay dead. ETA: Well, lore-wise anyway. Obviously you’re killing them over and over again, but that’s not part of the story, just a game mechanic.

2.) The ones that come back are almost always altered in some way. Compare KT in TK to KT in MagT: he ain’t lookin’ too hot in the latter.

Unless you’re talking about PvP combat in EVE, in which case there’s no valid way to compare, because WoW and EVE have very different PvP systems and philosophies.

Already thinking of transferring on us, SFG? :frowning:

I’ve topped out, but still have opportunities to skin and am only getting Borean leather which doesn’t seem to sell and only fills up my bags. Are there better drops ahead than just the leather and scraps?

Thanks

Q

Yup. There’s a BM hunter in our guild with … I think it’s Loque. A spectral tiger who moonfires and makes us go “Hey, I didn’t know we had a chicken with us…” He’s mostly kitted out in offset 251-264 pieces – I want to say that he pulls about 6-7K which isn’t bad.

So I should keep skinning, right, because I have no idea what you just tried to tell me, lizardling, my friend!

This IS Quasi, after all!

Thanks

Q

Borean leather doesn’t sell on your server?

I pity you, my friend. The market is okay on Ysera, I’m not making a fortune, but I am slowly making some gold.

Sorry Quasi, that was a response to someone above you

I’m surprised that Borean Leather isn’t selling on your server, though. That stuff is good for high end leatherworkers. I don’t know what your server economy looks like so I can’t really answer your question, I’m afraid.

Well, could be that I gave it over to my mule at a bad time, liz, I’ll give it another shot, since I have a bunch of it now…

Also, “Say Goodbye to Howling Fjord, Say Goodbye My Baby!”

I abandoned a couple of quests I didn’t understandP: The Echo of Ymiron and something about infusing lightning. Lichie spoke to us in Wyrmskill while we were hidden w/i the spirit world, but I thought when he let you go, that was the end of the quest, but no, so I let it go.

The other one, I lost something I needed to do the quest. so I hearthed back to Dal to re-equip…

Thanks

Q

Quasi, keep trying to sell the leather; it should still be a modest moneymaker.

As you start skinning higher-level mobs, you’ll very occasionally get Arctic Fur. That sells for 50g (on my server, anyway).

OK, after VOA tonight, I asked what I consider to be the strangest question I have ever asked another man. Quoth me: “Hey man, what gems you got in your pants?”.:smack:
The backstory: T9 pants dropped off the fire guy. Other mage already had them, so I got em.

The answer: +20 haste. In WoW, apparently being fast in the pants is a good thing.

The remaining question: Now I’m 5/5 T9, rocking about 5243 GS. Assuming I get the weekly in despite my coming travel, sometime towards the end of next week, I’ll have 60 Frost badges. Given that T10 pants/gloves can drop off Ice guy in VOA, it looks like my options are to get T10 shoulders for 60, get the lunar dust trinket with that sexy 179 spellpower, or keep saving for T10 chest. I’m leaning towards getting shoulders…but damn…that trinket with all the spell power is tempting…

You also get to help Artie Slowpoke destroy Stratholme. Oh, and if anybody from Marketing is reading this: do you guys make Chromie dolls? I haven’t found any :frowning: If you don’t make them, what are y’all waiting for, eh, eeeeh?

She gave me a huge fright back in vanilla, when I got this quest to go “talk to a gnome in Andorhal” and nothing pinged my radar on Track Humanoids… then I’d forgotten to change it after a trip to Onixia’s and whattheheck? She may be my favorite NPC, with apologies to Thrall, pre-latest-patch-Jaina and the Bronzebeard Bros. The latest patch has taken Jaina from “nice lady who is having a bit of a problem accepting that the boyfriend is not coming back” to “wet rag”. I hate her dialogue in ICC, specially her “sob sob oh, I’m just proud of my king! sob”.

That trinket is not that good of a choice for a mage. In fact if you are arcane, the Talisman of Resurgence is generally better for you. You’ll be much better off saving badges for tier gear. The set bonuses are very good.

I got the Talisman of Resurgence last night, with Triumph badges.

20 haste is good, but 12 spellpower, 10 haste (Reckless Ametrine) is better.
Purified Lunar Dust is a waste of frost badges for a mage. If you’re enamored with the idea of getting a +spellpower trinket, PvP for a few hours one weekend and after you’ve racked up 34,100 honor, go grab Battlemaster’s Ruination.
