New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

Speaking of interrupts, I’ve been leveling a prot pally. Seal of Justice FTW! It was fun taking on those Forsaken spellcasters in Ashenvale (the ones close to the Darkshore border) and watching them being mostly unable to get a spell off

I’m also leveling a priest (currently up to lvl 12), and I swear her spell hit rating must be directly proportional to how much mana she has left. It never fails - she’s at 50% mana, and attacks a mob, and ends up having two consecutive Smites miss (WTH? That spider is 3 levels lower than me! Why do I keep missing?!), and suddenly she doesn’t have enough mana to finish off the mob.

I’m also starting to believe that mobs that can heal themselves are tuned for maximum frustration, in that their healing spells appear to be timed to always go off a split second before your would-be killing blow/spell lands. Of course, non-healing mobs have their own version of this, with an invisible, single-use shield that pops up as soon as their HPs drop below your weapon’s average damage, practically guaranteeing that your next attack will miss, and the mob has time to get in one more hit on you before it dies.

Additionally, if there’s some dot, poison, disease, or snare that the mob can cast on you, it will always land just as you get the killing blow.

Piercing Howl: Is there anybody here who’s familiar with this Fury Warrior Talent from PvP or ICC Hardmodes who can give me some details on what other slows overwrite it and/or prevent it from getting applied? I respecced into it for our LK25-HM attempts last night and it seems like there were a lot of times it just wasn’t going up. At least one Shaman was dropping an Earthbind totem for every Valk in case I got picked up, and it’s my suspicion that that aura was preventing PH from landing while the Valks were in range of it. The guild just picked up a new Fury Warrior, and if he’s going to be coming in permanently, it would be useful to know how other slows interact with PH. (I know that it doesn’t cause any DRs, but it seems to me like just about everything overwrites it, which means for a lot of wasted GCDs that could go to Valk damage.)

Side note: It’s always a nice ego boost to go into a fight in your offspec and get a compliment on your DPS from another raider who pumps out serious damage in their mainspec.

Why do the new folks always say this? Do we really come off as *that *nuts? :o

That’s about where my Disc Priest is (I think he’s 55) and I’ll agree, I’m having a lot of fun healing instances on him!

Are you sure that applies to *all *Thrown weapons and not just the ones you start with on a Rogue? It seems odd to me that Guns and Bows would still take durability damage but Thrown would not.

Niiiiiiiiiiice.

Psh, sleep later. WoW now!

:smack::smiley:

Yup, what **Enilno **said.

Ah, yes, Disc healing at low-mid levels. Shield… shield… shield… shield. Anyone take any damage yet? What, we’re at the end of the instance? Nice run.

Well, there’s an occasional HOT (Renew?) and maybe a Greater Heal once in a long while.

Man, I have been having some serious Tetris Effect from playing WoW, dreaming about it every night even on days I don’t play and occasionally thinking about how it relates to real-life circumstances. For example, when walking down a wooded path at the park and coming to a clearing where some trees had been cut down I couldn’t help but think “Warsong Lumber Camp” and imagine what kind of “mobs” might be lurking right off the path. I’ve had the Tetris Effect before for games but never this intense, it usually wears off after a week or so but I’ve been playing WoW about 2 months now and I’m still dreaming about it all night. It’s not really not a bad thing, it’s better than dreaming about work, at least! Anyone else experience the same?

So I’ve mostly been playing my night elf hunter alt for the last couple of weeks and having fun with her. My other main is a warlock and both are somewhat similar being ranged pet classes but there are some things about the hunter I really like, tracking humanoids/beasts being particularly helpful especially when soloing so I don’t accidentally walk into a huge group of mobs (provided of course I’m in an area with just one or the other). I also like the challenge of tracking down cool pets. I decided I really wanted a turtle (I think they’re one of the cooler looking tank/tenacity pets) and had to do a little research to figure out where to get one, ended up getting one in the Barrens at one of the oases. I’ve had tons of compliments and questions about her (I guess they don’t really have a gender but I gave her a girl’s name), she’s been a great conversation starter. I even helped another hunter get one, taking him to the same place I got mine, since a) It’s hard to give good directions in chat and b) that way I could help him while traveling there petless. He said one of his big goals since he (recently) started playing was to get a turtle as a pet so it was cool way to connect with another player. Also, it was the first time in-game I was teaching/showing someone else how to do something which made me feel slightly less noob-ish for the first time. Yay, progress!

I’ve only had real-life stuff like this in always having to fight the urge to click on my /love macro when I see a squirrel or rabbit. On the other hand, it seems like every time I look at a screenshot someone posts, I end up forgetting it’s just an image and try to zoom out or look to the side with my mouse.

I dream raids a lot, especially after particularly long, stressful, and/or exciting ones. Back when I was playing a lot of Katamari Damacy, I used to constantly think about what I could roll up…

And yay for teaching experiences!

Yeah, I constantly have to stop myself from trying to change the camera angle. :smack:

I recently had a dream in which I was in a party of 5 Blood Elves raiding a Draenei colony on a small island off some coast or other in Azeroth. It went from action, to cutscene and back several times before finishing off…with a battle scene, controlled not through traditional means, but through a Guitar Hero dueling battle between the two factions!

What am I seeing? I was just in Bloodhoof Village, and there was a lvl 8 shaman and a lvl 5 druid, both with what looked like the Feralheart shoulders (you know, the ones with the dead birds on them?). I’m pretty sure that set isn’t even wearable by a toon that low level, even if the shoulders weren’t BOP. They weren’t purple (color, not epic), though. They were more bluish. What the heck was that?

BoA gear they bought from Dalaran with badges from there main.

Yah, the PvE BoA shoulders share the same graphic as the D1 dungeon sets.

Ah…okay. I’ve never actually seen heirloom gear before. After doing a little research, they must have been the Lasting Feralheart Spaulders.

I don’t remember much of it, but recently I had a dream where we were fighting Putricide and my university professors kept dropping by. We were piling up for a green goober and The Divine Father came by showing off his bencene-shaped quartz ashtray, there was an orange goober out and there was Dr Dark (that’s what his lastname means), surrounded by a cloud of multivariate differential equations, frowning as usual, we were all paralyzed by the gas and God (the Program Director) walked by nodding at everybody…

I think it was one of those times when you wake up when you realize that what you’re seeing is too absurd to be real.

Indeed if your professors were anything like mine there is no chance they would drop by once never mind many times, very odd.

My wow dreams are very rare and usually quite odd, often I’m just standing in Stormwind watching the world go by.

I had a long weekend off the game but came back last night to hit 450 jewel crafting on my paladin. I think it cost me about 2500G in all. I was getting some annoying RNG skill ups (or lack of) on yellow recipes in the 400s. Now to make money…checks the AH…cries…

BQL is never going to drop her fucking shield. Never, ever, ever. Also, what is up with Horde players trying to kill me while I’m farming FF mats in WG? That’s twice now I’ve been attacked, and I’ve stomped both of them. You’d think a ganker would try to get a better idea of how good my gear is before attacking.

My WAG: You’ve seen a lot of it; you just didn’t know what you were looking at. I see Heirloom gear everywhere. If you’re curious, just go to the Heirloom vendors and ctrl-click everything to try it on and see what models they used.

Woohoo, congrats! 2500g is pretty damn cheap to get all the way to 450, I’d say. You’re starting off in the hole, but you’ll soon crawl out of it.

I thought about phrasing that with “That I know of…”

Yeah, but then I couldn’t have gotten my morning nitpick in.

Speaking of heirloom gear – I leveled my pally with the +Int, +SP mail heirlooms (shoulders and chest). Is this the same gear I would use to level a resto shammy? They wear leather/mail don’t they?

Are they mail at level 80, or mail at level 1? If they’re mail at level 80 then yes, the shammy will be able to wear them. If they’re plate at level 80 then the shammy can’t wear them (at work, looking in Wowhead doesn’t seem particularly appropriate).
