New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

So, speaking of advice, anyone want to help me figure out what to do with my Shadow talents?

Basically, the 3 points in Improved Mind Blast are dead to me now since I am on a all-mind-flay-all-the-time diet. I could also easily stand to lose one of my points in Pain and Suffering; a 2/3 chance of refreshing SW: P should be plenty now that I’m flaying constantly (and I’m going to be using SW: D a lot less). But the only thing I really want is Inner Focus from the Disc tree. I could pick up Spirit Tap, but it doesn’t do much for me in boss fights; to get to Improved Spirit Tap I need to find more points (or skip out on Inner Focus).

I think most raiding builds skip out on Silence, but I like having the option; if I do drop it and the 2 points in improved Psychic Scream, I end up with one point I have no idea what to do with; maybe put it back into Pain and Suffering for lack of a better idea.

Thoughts?

Drop silence, scream and shadow affinity for imp spirit tap.

Are you sure that mind blast isn’t worthwhile? I have a lot of trouble believing mind flay dps beats mind blast dps.

Er… not silence, scream, but mind blast. :smack:

LOL No! I always feel like I’m butting in.

Dropping Mind Blast from your priority system is wrong, regardless of your Haste. Only time not to use it is during Heroism, and maybe Black Magic procs.

You sure? Just gave it another try on the target dummy, and throwing in mind blast pretty consistently loses me 300 dps.

Did you re-spec for Imp Mind Blast when you tried it with Mind Blast?

SW: Death should also not be in your priority list unless you’re moving. For movement you hit SW: Death and spam Devouring Plague until you can stop and cast again. Priority system (without clipping) should be:

VT
DP
SW: Pain
Mind Blast
Mind Flay (Mind Flay moves up on Haste procs/CDs).

ETA: Make sure you have 3/3 Pain and Suffering and get 5/5 Imp Mind Blast and keep it in your rotation.

It was consistently lower on my old build, with 3/5 Imp Mind Blast, and my new build (no Imp Mind Blast); I also don’t see how IMB would affect the sign (as opposed to the magnitude) of the change, since it only affects cooldown (plus a debuff that’s of limited relevance to PVE play). I am worried that my Glyph of Shadows won’t proc very often, since my only nonperiodic damage now is from my Improved Devouring Plague talent, and I’m not sure even that counts for proc purposes.

It’s possible that the DPS improvement comes solely from my own limited skill; being able to keep the uptime on my dots more consistently with a simpler rotation; but in any case at this point that’s unlikely to change.

(We’ll see how 2/3 P&S works out - if I find myself having to reapply SW: P very often, it goes right back to 3).

I’ve had horrible lag since returning from my trip. Game has been virtually unplayable from about 6-9 PM or so. It does get better after that. Guessing maybe it has something to do with the number of people online?

In any event, I got in a VOA 25 last night, posted 4500 DPS on the fire guy–not sure what I did on the Ice guy, but got my frosties, and am now the proud owner of T10 Shoulders. They come with a nifty yellowish glow, even before being enchanted. Still using the PVP enchant, because I don’t have the rep to get the Hodir ones.

Really hoping the latency situation is better over the holiday weekend…

Have you checked the AH for Relics of Ulduar? They’re getting pretty cheap now that people don’t have to level their Hodir rep for each alt; you should be able to get to Exalted without spending all that much.

Only problem is they’ve become so unprofitable I think a lot of people are just vendoring 'em now.

Keep an eye over a few days too I recently did this and at some points there were few posts at stupid prices but every now and then someone would dump a large stack (40-100) at a reasonable price. The Sons of Hodir ended up being my first exalted faction on my lock doing this.

You can also buy rep tokens for Hodir using Emblems of Triumph.

Interestingly, I have quite a few of the Relics. Been looting them from heroics for weeks, didn’t know what to do with them, so I saved them. Who do I turn them in to, and where is he?

Have you done the big, long quest chain involving the big blue women & the ice giants in Storm Peaks? Eventually you will get a decent positive reputation with the Sons of Hodir out of it (friendly or so); once you do, you can turn in the relics to their quartermaster - he should have a big blue question mark over his head.

Staying a bit vague to avoid spoilers, because it’s one of the better quest chains in Northrend, IMO.

School is back in session in many places - so you may be running into a “school’s out for the day - now I can play WoW” spikes. The school and college-age crowd that used to be able to play at all hours of the day during the summer now can’t get on until after classes/homework is done.

I think I started that chain. Got as far as the thing where you have to ride a dragon to rescue somebody…actually several somebodys…I hate quests like that, and am hoping to avoid it. Don’t care about plot, lore, or spoilers. Want enchant for more pewpew.

Sadly if want shoulder enchants, must do vehicle quest.

There are about six or seven more along that chain to get to positive rep with Hodir, and I don’t think there’s any way to end-run them.

You’re a little over halfway, I think. Even if you don’t care for the lore, the end of that quest chain is just amazingly fun (The Drakkensryd). I wish they’d included that competition as one of the random daily quests for that area, but they went with the more annoying ones instead (bear pit, egg freezing,). Such a wasted opportunity.

That reminds me, I need to get back to doing those dailies. I used to try almost every day for the polar bear mount, but then I kind of forgot about them.
