This is no longer correct in current high end gear. Here is a nice spreadsheet to calculate whether it is beneficial for you to drop Mind Blast from your priority.
As your post said, you should only drop Mind Blast if you’re clipping <5% of your Mind Flays. With the amount of movement required in high end fights, more than likely you are forced to clip more than 5%, hence you keep Mind Blast in your rotation.
Spreadsheets are great for theoretical things, but they only inform best practices, they do not write the rules for them. Dropping Mind Blast from your rotation unless you’re in a stand and deliver fight is a poor idea, especially for most Heroic encounters.
I play a Spriest and I got a lot of advice on gear, talents, spell rotation from shadowpriest.com.
Just fyi if you have never looked at that site, it helped me out a lot. I learned some things about stacking the Misery(?) (I think, I haven’t raided in a while) 5 times before using SWP for max effectiveness.
Thanks for the note - I have also been looking at shadowpriest.com. I changed my opening to take advantage of the Shadow Weaving bonus, from VT DP SWP to VT DP flay SWP.
You are welcome. That’s right, it was Shadoweaving, not Misery. :smack:
I haven’t raided in a while so my memory is a bit rusty.
I learned a lot from that site. I’m sure there are many others too. That was the main one I looked at tho.
Peeking in from way out in the Indonesian tropics just to catch up on what everyone else’s been doing…
Apparently ZG is going away as a raid instance come Cata. I need to get my prot pally down there with a friend to try and solo Gahz’ranka for the turtle poly book before then – in a recent ICC25, I got a couple screencaps of giant iceblocked turtles on LDW thanks to a pugged mage and 4-5 hunters.
Welcome ladeda! I’ll have to read up on spriesting too since we currently have more than enough priest healers running around and I have a secondary spec that isn’t doing anything. (mainspec holy, usually tank heal)
So hitting 75 just happened to occur at the same time as the achievement Veteran of the Wrathgate so I had no idea wtf was going on at all, I couldn’t figure out if it was just because I reached 75 I got this cutscene or what. But quite interesting!
Nope, the cutscene is triggered by handing in the quest, not by hitting level 75. You just got lucky. In a similar manner, my nelf hunter got the “500 Quests Completed” achievement after turning in the same quest that caused him to hit level 50. I thought, “Whoa, an average of exactly 10 quests per level!”
Hittin’ the road for the animals next week, and when I get done in the evening, I’m not gonna wanna do anything but sleep. I still haven’t managed to get Wolkie to 76, but we’re close at 80%.
Well today I got new shoulders for my pally, so I took my main (the priest) out to Storm Peaks to get the Hodir shoulder enchant for him. On my way back I said, what the heck, and stopped off to do the Hyldnir daily. I did it and… holy crap! Reins of the White Polar Bear!
Thank you for the welcome lizardlingI’d love to chat about Spriests anytime. I’m definitely not an expert by any means but I have done some raiding and have researched my class. Still confused about SP vs Hit vs Haste vs Crit vs Spirit and all that.
For example, I finally got enough emblems of Triumph to get two different helms.
I don’t know what do to. With the one that gives hit, my hit rating at this moment would be higher than it needs to be. Plus it also gives 82 haste and 131 sp. But it gives no spirit.
On the other hand, the one that does not have the hit rating would cause my hit rating to plummet from 289 to a measly 234. However it DOES offer 90 spirit and crit plus 131 sp.
Is Spirit THAT important to Spriests? I know being hit capped is very important so I’m leaning towards the one with the +hit and forego the spirit.
Any suggestions? Mind you, I’m just now leveling my stuff by doing the daily heroics and stuff so I’m sure I will keep getting better things so my thought it to take the one with the hit now and worry about the rest later?
Is that sound reasoning? Or totally out in left field? :o
I’m not an expert on spriests by any means, but my understanding is they prioritize SP and haste over spirit (after reaching their hit cap, of course). I don’t know any spriest who looks for spirit outside of what “just so happens” to be on the gear they obtain.
Well, my plan is to gear up enough to start raiding again. I’m just doing the random heroics to gear up at the moment. I took about a year off from playing and got way behind. In that case would you recommend the hit or still the spirit piece?
Spirit is great for holy priests, who turn 25% of it into spellpower. It’s not bad for other specs, but less important than hit, spellpower, or (I’m guessing) crit.
