That’s a bit trickier, since you’ll want to hit the level 83 spell hit cap, which is 289 for horde shadow priests. The crit\spirit helm is more damage, if you’re able to get that hit from elsewhere. If you’re not able to, then the hit\haste is better.
In heroics, the level 82 spell hit cap is only 79 (or zero with misery up), which is the basis for my earlier statement.
I am slightly confused with spell hit and warlocks not sure if you (or anyone else here) can help. I have 2 points in Supression which gives me an extra 2% hit is this included in my Armory page? It currently says I have 430 hit (16.39%) and I am not sure if that includes the talent bonus.
Apparently Ret Paladins can tank. Zoned into heroic Nexus on my druid and see, what looks like a well geared DK tank. Off we go and he’s taking very little damage so I’m hurricaning my tauren butt off during trash. We get to the first boss and he pops Avenging Wrath… waitaminute… DK’s don’t have wings, it’s a Paladin!
He took very little damage and we mowed down everything in our path. Have to say I wouldn’t mind healing him through any heroic.
In other news, resto shamans rolling on my Black Heart make me a sad, sad tank.
Now that my hunter has full T9 I’ve decided to run regular ToC every now and then for the trinket. Had a really annoying tank the other day who wouldn’t stop moving, I’ve seen this before and had a hard time describing it but it finally dawned on me. It’s like watching a PvP rogue trying to tank. This isn’t a “mobs keep trying to get behind me” dance, I’m a tank I know this dance well. This is a “I PvP a lot and I MUST GET BEHIND THEM!” dance. Now this is a problem because as he’s dancing forwards and backward he can’t keep the mobs in front of him long enough to establish good aggro so I’m pulling off of him with every attack. He even got him by Eadric’s radiance every time, thank goodness for rocket boots. Look, you’re a tank, not a rogue. Stand there and get hit, if they’re behind you, move. You’re not doing more damage this way, you’re just annoying your DPS. Stop.
Havn’t been raiding with the guild since I returned for vacation, things aren’t looking good so I may have to go back to pugging ICC.
With good enough gear/levels/healer any class/spec can tank really. I tanked 50% of Ingvar the plunderer on my 75 rogue the other night because our scrub tank died like a punk.
Thank you for all your replies and suggestions concerning which helm I should take. I went ahead and took the +hit one since my hit would have taken a nosedive and at this time don’t have the options for getting hit from somewhere else. I appreciate all your responses.
So, last night I (unexpectedly) healed my very first raid in Ulduar. Mind you, I’ve never set foot in Ulduar and even though I’m a priest I run around as shadow blasting things, not healing so I have no experience healing raids. But, turned out they needed a healer so I was elected since I am also disc spec’d. I was very nervous and expecting complete failure on my part. :o :smack:
But, happily it was actually fun and went really well. I was with guildies and the RL explained the fights very well. I did know as a disc priest my job was to heal the tanks. So, heal the tanks I did and it was rather fun. I know those guys had been in there before so it definitely made it easier.
However, I do have one question concerning warriors and being shielded. Last time I raided was about a year ago and if I remember correctly it was a “no-no” to shield warriors as their rage generation came from from being hit, and the shield prevented that. I whispered one of the tanks, a warrior, if he wanted to be shielded and he replied that yes, all tanks should be shielded.
So, did something change? Or am I not remembering right? I could swear it was a “no-no” to shield warriors at one time. What changed?
I hated that when I was DPSing on my ret pally. I got into a heroic PoS run once with a draenei tank (don’t recall his class) who was constantly jumping up and down while tanking groups of mobs. I wasn’t the only one getting annoyed with that - we ended up vote-kicking him after the second wipe.
Side note: some paladins still don’t like getting shielded, 'cause they get mana back from being damaged & then healed, and can get mana-starved that way. I generally don’t shield pally tanks in heroics (but do in raids where they take enough damage to blow through the shield pretty easily usually).
Today my priest zoned into Violet hold with a pally tank, a warrior, hunter and lock. We tear through the first set of trash and the first boss, although the tank keeps losing aggro (I checked to make sure he had RF up). After the first boss, he doesn’t move while the rest of us are taking on the first wave of trash. Then he d/c’s. But we managed to do the last 2/3rds of VH with no tank at all, with aggro bouncing around (but the hunter/lock pets doing what they can to help out). It made a lazy VH run much, much more exciting.
Also - Burning Dog Legion ran ICC-10 for the first time tonight - we cleared the first level by one-shotting every boss - I’m pretty sure no one died on any of the bosses. Yay! Looking forward to next week…
Correction, no one died except for me—twice—on either trash or to the firebeams in the walls after you beat up Saurfang (though a few people died to the latter).
But yeah, yay us for one shotting the lower spire!
Future me and Old me are a pair of idjits, whose insistence on absurd behaviours such as not using pets, mirror images, going into sneak mode, etc. shows that they lost what little brain Real Me has somewhere mid-temporal-spell (or maybe the copies Chromie uses are from a timeline where I got hit one time too many). The idea for those two quests is nice, but the execution… Og, the execution is as painful as trying to melee-DPS when your tank thinks he’s a PvP rogue.
I had a couple of cool moments in Wintergrasp last night. Firstly I was flying around pre battle scouting for Horde hanging about the fortress when I spot a shadow priest hovering. I fly up to /wave when the priest dismounts midair, hits me with all his instant cast DoTs then casts levitate to slow his descent. This is the second time a spriest has done this to me when will I learn? Unfortunately for him a bubble, dismount, Holy Shock with Divine Favour saved my bacon though he did manage to escape.
Secondly don’t watch a fight between a Holy Pally and a Ret Pally, it’s rather dull. I was the Holy paladin and I could heal through all her attacks and in my current gear I could still be spamming Flash of Light now probably. We both tried all our tricks to start but after that it was a war of attrition only ended by an undead mage who showed up to hit me with some Arcance Missiles.
Question for Death Knights – do you macro Rune and\or Frost Strike into all of your abilities or not? I see it recommended in quite a few places. I am loathe to do it myself as I like to have complete control over my runic power dumps but wondering if that’s not something I should be worrying about at all for the added benefit of not missing a Strike.
