I’m still concerned about the ICC achievement run… not sure what we’ll do if the OT doesn’t have his Video Card fixed. What’s the etiquette here - how long are we obligated to wait for him?
With a problem like that with no defined end date? Not at all. He signed up for the run, which gives him first shot at the slot, but only if he’s actually able to get online. It’s his obligation to have a working computer. The other nine people aren’t obligated to wait at all. It would be especially *generous *if you postponed the run until later in the lockout, but that’s not required. And that assumes that there’s even a day and time you guys *can *get together other than what you’re already scheduled for. Better that nine people get a run in with a new tank, than that you all miss out on another week (with only a handful potentially left before Cata) out of solidarity.
Quite a successful night for me last, my paladin hit 50 mounts for the achievement and the Albino Drake which is a good fit for the warrior of the light with a white guild tabard, better than the red drake anyway.
After that I took the plunge and tanked my first instance on my DK, got to love the instant queue, which went smoothly until the healer ninjaed the Polearm at the end which caused rage from the other DK. Frost threat on trash is amazing, no one got close and I was the lowest level toon on the run.
Ah, the weekends. When I should know better than to queue for random battlegrounds.
I really don’t understand the mindset of the guys who are like “if you don’t have a full set of furious gladiator’s whatever then you shouldn’t queue”. I understand even less when they quit the BG as soon as the Alliance starts to lose a tiny bit.
The part that makes me laugh, though, is the guy who yelled at me after our loss for dying 14 times. Oh, I’m sorry, didn’t realize I wasn’t supposed to just stand around pretending to guard points and then run like a sissy when the Horde showed up. Seriously, literally all of my deaths were watching a somewhat equal-numbered horde force approach a flag of mine, with a few buddies helping me guard, I run out to tie down their healer and realize hey, all the greens ran off.
Well, to make up for my ire earlier, our ICC10 was incredible. We did mostly normal mode, but switched to Heroic for Marrowgar and the Lootship–so I got the 264 version of Frost Giant’s Cleaver, three other drops that were upgrades from my T9-era stuff, and upgraded my Ashen Verdict ring to boot. Also got my first BQL kill! (in fact, my dps was so improved from the upgrades that I got the bite–and didn’t screw it up once cough)
I’ve been joking that I got more drops in this one run than I got in my entire FFXI career. Which is, sadly, almost literally true.
squee My main just reached 79, and I want to keep on going, but I have to work in the morning and I should really stop here! runs around gleefully At least I’ll have a full 2x exp all the way to 80. Double rainbows alllllll the way!
I hope this thread picks up more when Cata drops, because it’s been pretty quiet lately.
The weird thing is that there’s no penalty for it, either. I mean, you’re not out money for repairs. You can usually hop right back within seconds and splatter the sod who stabbity’d your face. It’s vastly less troublesome than PvE play.
I found that, once I realized that my toon was going to die sometimes in the game, I was much more relaxed and less clenchy while playing. And that’s just PvE!
I still hate PvP, but not so much because I die, but because I suck so much at it that I die constantly. There’s just too much going on at once for me to focus on and have any idea of where I am or what my most effective move is…I have the same problem in giant set-piece PvE battles like the recovery battles for Gnomeregan and Echo Isles. I DID both of those on my lvl 80 Alliance and Horde toons (one each), but it wasn’t all that much fun just because there’s so many mobs and toons in one place that you can’t even tell if you’ve got anything targeted half the time.
I’m a little twitchy today because I took a trip this weekend and haven’t played WoW since Thursday night (and then, only briefly). Looking forward to getting started on Brewfest tonight as well as the BDL raid, if we’ve got a full group.
Well, PvP gear might be a large part of that (not sure if you have any or not). Toons with zero resilience will just get mowed down in a BG.
This is just an experience thing (as far as knowing what your effective moves are). A big help is name-plates with an add-on to indicate class. That way at the very least you can see that the pink bar casting Flash of Light is probably someone you should try to CC or at least interrupt.
Of course it’s also massively helpful to go in a group. We have a group of 4-5 regulars that run BGs for fun, and we can easily wipe out much larger groups just by having a little coordination (and a healer!).
Yeah, I was rather disappointed by that (and Battle for Undercity a little bit) because it’s so chaotic and you don’t really do anything (or have any risk of failure). As far as I can tell the event never fails, and unless you get too far away from the NPCs, you can’t ever die.
If you have a DPS spot missing, Jagaya is unsaved to ICC10 (and back on Cairne). Not 100% I’ll be available, but if I am I’m more than happy to help round out the roster (and I can open Heroic Gunship, if y’all want).
Another thing that disappointed me about the recovery battles was that the results (gnomes holding surface Gnomer, trolls holding Echo Isles) wasn’t permanently phased in for those who finished the questline. I mean, I understand that it can’t be a fully-functioning capital city until Cata (or at least 4.0.1) finally comes out, but it’s really disappointing to go through all of that rigmarole and then gallop back over and find that Zalazane or Thermaplugg is still running things. They could maybe have gnomes setting up their little surface cottages and trolls throwing together some new lodges to start cleaning up.
My wife doesn’t like PvP (despite the fact that, whether it’s with her retribution paladin or her boomkin druid or her current lowbie fury warrior, she’s usually near the top of the HK and KB lists) because she cannot get past this. Dying = you are doing poorly.
Oh, boy…Signing up for the Brew of the Month club will be the final achievement I need to get the “What a Long Strange Trip it Has Been” meta achieve…me wants the violet p-drake!
