New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

If it means that much to you, we can still chat in /sdmb

China and Korea have their own versions of the game. Someone with the U.S. version could not play on Chinese or Korean servers, or vice versa.

Do you mean “localization” rather than “version”?

Cuz when I hear “version” in relation to software, I think 3.0, 3.1, 4.0, etc.

I mean, they play on completely separate groups of servers, with localized versions of the game, which may not be running the same version as other realms. For instance, China just got WotLK, and their Wrath has a lot of graphical differences from ours. And even for the regions that are relatively current with each other, patches can get pushed at slightly different times. It’s not just localization in terms of language changes.

Another lock checking in with a question: do you rapid-target all the mobs, or just send it into one and RoF, or what? I really, really don’t understand Seed of Corruption at all, tactics-wise.

Blizzard Store

I’m no Warlock, but from what I’ve heard and seen you want to seed as many as you can, hoping for a chain of explosions/deaths. If you get them all seeded then feel free to RoF or whatever. As I understand it once a seeded mob dies it does the AoE explosion. If that kills another seeded mob, it will explode, etc…

Elune crashed, and now shows as offline. Just in time to pre-empt a guild run at the weekly raid target. :frowning:

Argent Dawn was also down last I checked.

Yep. And of course, all my EVE wardecs are down while we build up to a major merc contract, so I’m MMOless at this time.

Yep they are on the PTR, patch 4.01 will include all the class redesigns so 31 point talent trees, Holy power for paladins, focus for hunters and so on. Soul Shards so far have little use in PvE though some utility (instant summons, speed increase after teleport) in certain situations. Quite exciting really.

My Paladin’s Squire has his pony which completes the crusader look. The bank\vendor\mail an added bonus though the 4 hour cooldown seems a bit high to me.

ETA: 4.01 is now available on the background downloader, it’s getting close…

You have two fundamental goals:

  1. Always be casting Seed (until you need to tap/pact)
  2. Never override a previous seed buff.

If one mob is taking damage fast enough that it’ll proc Seed before the next one lands, then you can just spam that single mob. If it isn’t, you’ll need to bounce it between two or three mobs. As soon as one goes off, all of the others will. I can’t remember ever loading more than three mobs without the first going off, especially if you put the first one on the tank’s focus. You really don’t want to stack a bunch of them up if you don’t have to, since it’s really easy to pull with Seed since it’s so awesome.

Yeah, I wish they’d nerf that CD down a bit (and give you a way to check on how much time you have left before you can use it again).

CURSE YOU, BLIZZARD

I had someone who was going to give me their Mini Thor from SCII. But it binds to your b.net account. :frowning:

Yup. Why should they let other *players *make money selling the pets, when instead they could entice WoW players to pick up SCII to make *themselves *more profits?

ETA: Speaking of which, I should see what Grunty is going for on eBay these days. It might be time to offload my extra one.

I’ve ready almost nothing about the upcoming Cata changes – I know the talent trees are shrinking but not what they look like, etc. Can you explain what “holy power” is? You paired it with “focus for hunters” so is it a mechanism that is replacing mana?

ETA: feel free to respond in the Cata thread instead of this one.

Holy power for paladins is soul shards for warlocks is combo points for rogues is shadow orbs for priests.

The only one of those I’m familiar with is combo points. Which is one of the reasons I dropped my rogue :frowning:

The rest are new mechanics for Cataclysm, with the exception of soul shards which are a repurposed mechanic. Basically Blizzard has fallen in love with the concept of dual resource management for attacks. You not only have mana/energy/runic power/rage to deal with, you also have holy power/soul shards/combo points/runes/shadow orbs/etc. They get used in slightly different ways, but it’s all basically the same concept.

Had a blast last night in the guild alt run. I was hoping to take my warrior, but they really needed a raid healer so I switched to my resto shaman. Came away with a couple of new weapon upgrades, so I’m happy about that. We ran a little later than I usually like to, but I was having so much fun I didn’t even notice the time until we got to Sindy. Got in a few easy hardmodes and we’re going to rock Lich King on Sunday so I’m really excited about that. Even though we have a disc priest in the group I’m sure I’ll toss out a few chain heals when infest pops up, I think I’ve developed a Pavlovian response to the sound cue from DXE.

Looking forward to more alt runs in the future. And more singing on Vent.

Yay!

Good luck!
