New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

Brewfest started last Monday, right? So I’ve killed Corin every day on both my toons, meaning I’m 0 for 14 on mounts this year. I did get the remote and tankard, both of which are fairly useless. At least that’s 14 Frost emblems each and there are still at least a few days left. I should get Brewmaster tonight on my pally if I do the old “buy the outfit, get the achievement, then return the outfit for a refund to buy the Brew of the Month ticket.”

I haven’t had any luck with ol’ Corin either, in terms of mounts–just some frost tokens and useless trinkets.

I did get Brewmaster though.

“Drunk and Disorderly” isn’t a requirement for Brewmaster this year, so you don’t have to buy the outfit at all.

I tried to return part of my outfit to the Token vendor chick but it said the she didn’t want it. :frowning:

Whoah, it’s not? I was wondering how people were getting “Brewmaster” after only a few days. Why, back when my priest got Brewmaster…!

Well that’s good news, I already have 150+ tokens so I can easily get the Brew of the Month and the disguise-your-mount achievements when I log in tonight. I guess at this point I’ll go ahead and get D&D anyway since I’m so close.

Multiple simultaneous Shamblings is definitely going to happen if you’re having dispel problems–you need the disease to get onto your adds to kill them, so if that’s not happening, they’re not going to go down. At that point, it’s absolutely essential to have someone who can dispel enrages on them–either a Hunter with Tranq Shot or a Rogue with the poison that does the same thing. The Rogue will take a big DPS hit, but it’s better than the DPS they’d do after a wipe (i.e., zero). I can’t remember–was this on your Warrior? You want to be making sure to save your stuns for the Shamblings when they’re enraged or frenzied. Ideally, you’d have a Hunter or a Rogue focusing on the first one, and then whenever a second one was up, you’d Conc Blow it when it enraged. If you’re stuck dealing with both on your own, you can focus the first one and target the second, which will let you see when to hit one or both with stuns. Moot point now, I guess, but.

I second the **/dnd **suggestion. This will put a Do Not Disturb tag next to your name, and reply to anyone who whispers you that you don’t want to be bothered. You can either leave it as the default message, or you can add your own by typing it after the command. For instance, /dnd I want to play by myself right now would respond to anyone who whispers you with something like Wolkenlaufre is DND: I want to play by myself right now. You can turn it off again by typing just **/dnd **again and it will clear it.

Like people have explained, that’s a **HUGE **no-no. It’s one thing to withdraw money that’s there to use–it’s another to withdraw items and sell them for money for yourself. The only person who should sell gbank items is the GM and/or the person who’s been in charge of maintaining the bank, and any money from the sales should go straight back into the gbank.

If you want to encourage people to use the gbank, you can add a reminder to the Guild Message of the Day (GMOTD), which you can set from the Guild interface. Just type “o” for the social window and then go to the guild tab–the GMOTD will be at the bottom, and clicking on it will bring up a text box where you can change the one you have or enter a new one.

I just found out that any toon who’s high enough to enter BRD can get in on the action. What you need to do is form a group and port in, then have one person drop and invite the lowbie in their place. The daily bag is generated whether or not the person queued through the interface, so the lowbie will get Frost badges and a chance at the mounts. Plus, they can roll on the trinkets (though they obviously can’t use them until 80).

IIRC, the ram mount is identical to the other epic (100% speed) rams; it’s just a recolor. (The same way the AV ram is a recolor of the Dwarf racial ones.)

That would be awesome, but I’ve never seen that. I remember being disappointed by how similar they are from the other rams.

There is no way for a player to do so, but GMs can see what characters share an account.

Everything that is on your action bar will also be in your ability book or in your bags. It’s not extra storage space–it’s just a way to use items without opening your bags or your book. There is no way for an item to be on your action bar and not also in your bag or your ability book.

Think of the action bar like the keyfob for your car, which probably has lock buttons on it. You can push the buttons on the fob to lock or unlock your car, but the locks are still on the car itself. If you took the locks out of the car (or the items out of your bags), the keyfob (or action bar) wouldn’t do anything.

I wonder if it has to do with the fact that “beer” is a pretty broad term. I’m not sure there’s anything in the game that’s just called “wine,” either, and all the various forms of harder alcohol are specified as to their types versus just being called “spirits” or what have you.

Woohoo! Congrats on the drake!

That’s pretty cool (although honestly, any toon who isn’t already in their 70s probably isn’t going to get much use out of the trinkets).

I’ve determined that the two toons were not the same player - last night I did a /who on each name and found them both logged in at the same time, in disparate locations.

It turns out I was incorrect anyway. I hadn’t noticed that the head guy at the Brewfest grounds outside Ironforge uses the term “beer” after he samples the brew you turn in after killing Coren the first time.
I had a bit of solo roleplaying fun at Brewfest a couple nights ago. I had rolled up an undead warrior named Dimondley Lucado (currently level 14), a former manservant of King Terenas Menethil. (This is on Cenarion Circle, another RP server.) He’s taken up arms, not out of any desire for combat, but out of necessity, and he’d really rather be fishing. He’s also pretty bitter about the whole “undead” thing, and quite disgusted that he’s now forced to consort with “cows, uncouth orcs, and goblins … at least the elves are still civilized, if obnoxious and vain”. He’s unguilded, but wears a blank tabard purely to cover up the embarrassingly-mismatched collection of armor he’s been given.

So anyway, he limped his way to Orgimmar to investigate Brewfest, where he reluctantly completed two quests: “Chug & Chuck” for 10 tokens, and the pink-elekk-slaying quest for 40 tokens. Upon handing in the elekk quest, he spoke thusly to the goblin:

“There. I have completed this meaningless task for you. But know this, you shrunken, beer-addled halfwit: I performed this menial chore not out of any desire to aid you, but only that I might obtain a decent hat. No proper gentleman should be seen without a hat, yet no one seems willing to sell me one and thus I am reduced to this … tomfoolery. Now hand over those tokens!”

(Dimondley takes his tokens and turns to go, then turns back to the goblin)

“Oh, and take off that stupid mask. You look ridiculous and are fooling nobody.”

(Dimondley stalks over to the Brewfest goods merchant)

“You there! Do not bother me with your nonsensical, drunken chit-chat! Just take these tokens and hand me that purple hat so that I may begone from this place of debauched revelry!”

(Dimondley snatches the Purple Brewfest Hat, jams it on his head, and stalks to the zeppelin tower to return to Lordaeron.)

This isn’t necessarily true. For example, every Tuesday morning you will find two toons of mine (each on a different account) online at the same time–one in Dalaran, one in Karazhan.

<snip RP description>

Very cool, I love it! I wish I was on your server–it would be fun to have somebody fun, literate, and not a vampire or half-dragon to RP with.

That just means they’re not on the same account. It’s entirely possible they’re the same player. GMs might not be able to link the accounts by the registered names or payment methods, but the IPs should match if it’s the same person.

You’re making me want to break out my Tauren RP character again, Mister Rik. Too bad 99% of RP servers are populated by monkeys.

That’s a thought–is there any RP server with a significant population of RP dopers?

Defile is a pain in the ass. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m going to be testing an addon that whispers you when Defile’s on you, since that helped a lot on BQL – just look for the differently colored text in your chat window. (This is in addition to the icons from DBM/DXE, btw) We’re seeing a general lack of awareness when it comes to defile (well, we had 10 attempts the first night and we got him to 60%). Once we get that down, we should be able to get the rest of the fight.

Plus, apparently Curse took over Wowstead so I had to ask them to reset my wowstead password and log into the guild website with my curse email instead. I’m still not sure how they associate one with the other, but it worked and I got back in successfully. Did some revamping of the site to clean up anomalies from the transition (different schema, etc). Still, I would have appreciated an email telling me that this was happening…

That would be neat, and would very likely make me consider moving my second DK to another server. I’ve got a very cool backstory set up for him, but nobody to play with. :stuck_out_tongue:

What IMO should be 100% required for that fight is for everyone to enable the option in their bossmod (AFAIK all of the big three have it) to Say when Defile is on you. This makes your character /say Defile on me! (or sometimes /yell, but IMO you should keep it consistent to /say), so that everyone can have chat bubbles up and *see *when someone in range of them has a Defile *and *which direction they’re headed.

LK also targets the person he is going to cast Defile on, so if you have him as your Focus target, you can see when he changes targets. This is imperative in the Heroic version of the fight, as it provides 2-3 seconds of advance warning to move out of the raid stack on overlap Defile/Val’kyrs (the 2nd/5th Val’kyr/Defiles will have a chance of either one happening first). Power Auras can also be set to display a customized warning when Defile is being cast, if you need more than the DBM/DXE/Big Wigs warnings.

I don’t know if it counts, but I have a baby paladin on Wyrmrest Accord-US. A lot of people who RP seem to have pointed toward that server as the current Flavor. That said, I’ve also seen some fairly eye-searing flags just hanging out in SMC. Ye gads. I mostly haven’t tried RP’ing, mostly because I’m too shy.

Bah, missed edit window.

Was gonna say, thanks for the advice SFG and Daedalus! Powa is probably overkill (I already use it myself so I may try that but I’ve found that it’s not always reliable in its triggers). I suspect we’ll go the route of using focus targets, yeah. I’ll also suggest the chat bubble/macro trick and see how it goes over.

In this case, each toon was in a different dungeon.

The warrior also appears to name his toons in a similar manner to our own FlightlessBird - when I looked up his guild, he was listed alongside two other toons whose names begin with the same three letters, and looked like actual names. I figure that in a guild with only 14 members, what are the odds of three different players in that guild using the same naming convention? The paladin, OTOH, had one of those “I want to appear tough so I’ll pick a name that makes me sound like a professional wrestler” names.

I have a DK with a complex backstory on Wyrmrest Accord, but I mostly RP her out of WoW with one of my friends. I also have an earlier version of the character (a paladin; guess what happened to her!) on Shadow Council. I’ve seen very little RP on SC, but a decent amount on WA.

First time I’ve seen this happen, so I looked it up, and sure enough, those guys standing over the fm in Dal with their huge mounts are deliberately blocking a player from interacting. Pretty shitty.

80% to 77 and have been collecting a LOT of Borean leather for my mule to auction…

Thanks
