New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

So…is Brewfest over as of the end of maintenance today, or do we get one last shot at a kodo (and 2 bonus frosties) tonight? I got a BoE dagger in my keg’o’loot yesterday. Figure I’ll hang on to it for a while, see if others are selling it on AH and if so for how much. Could give it to my druid if he decides to go feral in Cata…

Heh, that was my argument, but GL argues back that Sylvanas must have known about it somehow.

Our Uld group went back in and had a go at Mimiron. We downed him and General Vezax, which was great, but at the same time a little depressing since we were cheesing it with our ICC10/25 gear. It took us a few tries to get it right but it went very easily. Still not sure I want to try Firefighter, though, despite our new lock yelling “FIREFIGHTER!” every time someone mentions Mimi.
AND. After we downed Vezax, some people were going home, some people were poking ahead to see what Yogg was up to. I was hanging out in the room with Vezax’s corpse, peering up at the gorgeous windows some more when Yoggie started yelling. “Eh okay, someone facepulled…”

Then. bam People turn into Faceless Ones, embiggen, and start chasing everyone else. I about crapped myself, it was exactly the sort of thing that HAPPENS TO YOU IN FUCKING HORROR MOVIES GODDAMMIT.
I’ll put my Ulduar up against anyone else’s favorite raid in terms of sheer epic feel. ICC had a little of that feel but Ulduar had it in spades IMHO. I really hope that at least one of the raids in Cata will have that feel.

IIRC the calendar said Wednesday, which really means “2 AM on Wednesday”, so one more shot.

Well I finally got the Brewfest Ram – it dropped for my pally, so in his first year of participating in Brewfest he got both mounts (plus the remote and the tankard o’ terror).

Meanwhile my poor priest – the one I’m actually collecting mounts on – has run Coren Direbrew every day for the entire event this year and, after three years of doing Brewfest, still has not received a mount. I blame Yeti who out-rolled me for a mount during Brewfest last year.

It makes sense though - my pally got the blue drake from Heroic Oculus the first time he ran it, but my priest has done that one dozens of times without getting that one either.

I really, really, really want a Kodo on Reins. Not that I’d ever use it, just to complete the collection, I won the ram last year but passed on the Kodo a couple of times.

My paladin on the other hand has been showered with Kodo’s, he’s up to six at this point. DK is the only one with both mounts and he’ll most likely be put on the back burner when Cata comes out.

Fun times getting lost in Blackrock Spire yesterday looking for The Beast. I’ve decided I want to fill my last spare stable slot with a corehound and I want The Beast. Spent a good hour or so wandering around trying to find him, getting lost and the Leeeeeeroy achievement in the process. It’s a tough tame, that’s for sure, I need all the haste I can get so that I can cast my tame spell fast enough that he doesn’t fear or knock me back. Was able to get a friend to come along on her shaman for bloodlust and I promptly forgot how to use the macro’s I had set up. Ended up killing The Beast out of frustration, going to try again today with some reworked macros and a lot of finger crossing.

Next on my list is to tame King Krush in Scholozar Basin. Not only is he a rare spawn, but I think he paths in such a way that the oracle guards at one of the outposts will kill him. Oh he fears too, and is pretty difficult to solo tame. I think I’ll go insane trying to find and tame him before Cata, which is my newest goal.

Speaking of hunter pets to tame - you know that one Sons of Hodir daily quest where you turn Jormungar worms into ghosts so that the ghost dude can come eat them or whatever? You can tame the ghost worms. I really wish I had a hunter higher than level 15 to give it a try.

<Burp>…Nother round of Brewfest Kodo Keg Brew for all…and give Father Kene o’er in the corner a double!..<hic!>

Oh phew. But eyeroll about GS requirements for raids. It’s one thing to do it in a PUG, with a reasonable threshhold, but in your guild? Smacks of lazy (and ignorant) leadership. Er, not to shittalk your new guild or anything.

Hahahahaaaaaa, good fucking luck. Anybody with a 6k GS who’s willing to do regular ICC either (a) is a moron who’s wearing terrible gear with the best ilvl or (b) got carried to their gear. You might as well thank the RL for sticking a giant sign on their forehead saying “STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM ME.”

It’s not a matter of catching on–they already know everyone’s damage is going to go up. It’s just a matter of seeing how it shakes out on the live realms so they can decide whether to leave the 30% buff in or scale it back.

Yup, people blasted through a lot of the TBC raids, including the harder ones, after the changes. And that also included the nerfs to the bosses themselves.

The new expansion “only” adds five levels, but there’s a shit-ton of new content that spans the entire old world. The reason they’re only going up to 85 this time isn’t because it’s a smaller expansion–it’s because they don’t want us to get married to the idea of an expansion always being 10 levels, no more, no less. They wanted more flexibility, but they knew that a third expansion with the same number of new levels would pretty much set it in stone.

Well done! I love anybody in my parties who knows how to use their skills to make my life easier, especially with regard to casters. I *can *juggle the packs around to get them to cooperate–or spend my time keeping Charge and Intervene on CD–but I’d rather be lazy.

Cancelled auctions will always be returned to you in the mail. There may be a slight lag before they show up, but it will be seconds or minutes, not an hour like it would be with a won auction.

Just a note–every time you create an auction, you put a deposit down. If the auction sells, you get that deposit back; but if not, the AH keeps it. So while it’s a good idea to cancel an auction if you drastically underprice something, it can otherwise be better for you to just leave the auction up and see if it sells anyway–even if it’s a weird stack size.

FWIW, they’re right next to the inn, and part of the Alliance enclave. If you pull up your Dalaran map, you can see that the Alliance enclave is in the southern half. Go there and stand in front of the door to the inn, facing it–look to your right, and that next doorway leads to the portals.

IMO, go for the Gnomer questline. That will be gone forever; the Outland dungeons aren’t going anywhere.

I’ve seen them pretty frequently on some servers. People do achievement runs all the time on Korgath, where I’m at now. Of course, this will be very different from running the instance at its original level, since it’s quite likely that some portion of the raid will overlevel it and overgear it. But you don’t really have any other option at this point, since a strict 60 or 70 guild wouldn’t take a 71 on their runs.

Psh, lame. My Mage’s macro actually randomly selects among Penguin, Pig, and Turtle. I need to go pick up the Black Cat one for her, too.

Either she knew about it, or she was grossly negligent. It’s the same argument that you can make about Wrynn and the Defias.

A lot of people feel that Ulduar really had the best design of any of the Wrath raids.

You need to be BM with the 51-point talent, though, right?

Could be. TBH, I saw the pretty picture on a livejournal friend’s lj and squee’d, but didn’t pay much attention to the details because, hey, level 15.

!!!

Thank you for giving me something fun to do with my BM hunter. :stuck_out_tongue:
I don’t do much with her except collect pets; this one sounds like fun!

Yeah, I’m pretty sure that Worms are part of that special classification (Exotic?) that you can only tame with the Talent.

Oh man, I almost forgot my Rant About the Latest Fucking Dumbass Thing Blizzard Wants to Do:

They just announced that they plan to introduce a *hard cap *of 600 characters per guild as of 4.0. Any guild that’s over the cap when the patch goes live will not be able to add any new members until they drop below the limit. This is, of course, after Blizzard promised to fix the broken guild interface, which starts bugging out once guilds grow beyond about 500 members.

What. The. Fuck. I have never been in one of those megaguilds, nor do I have any desire to be. The largest guild I was ever in had probably a bit under 100 accounts spread over about 200 characters (and even then, I knew just about everybody, and they knew me). Once I moved into hardcore raiding, the guilds got a lot smaller–big enough for a raid team or two, with various alts, and their friends.

But Blizzard has apparently forgotten that WoW is an MMO. Remember those first two letters? Massively *fucking *Multiplayer. To remove existing functionality, which has been broken since launch, because you don’t have the time to fix it (gee, maybe if you hadn’t blown your load on RealID) is fucking ridiculous. To tell people who they can and can’t play with, especially in the coming era of guild leveling, is deeply stupid.

This reeks of Activision to me. No way the old Blizzard would have said, “We’re removing this feature instead of fixing it, or letting you continue to choose to use it even though it’s broken.” Not for something as important as guilding.

Maybe the hardware really can’t handle guilds of that size. You know, like how the servers can’t handle a million concurrent connections.

I wonder how many guilds truly have over 600 active toons… I’m sure there are some, but it can’t be that many.

With guild leveling and guild perks I’m sure they want to avoid the idea of mega-guilds that band together merely to get the nice perks without actually being a coherent whole. Not that there’s anything inherently wrong with a super-large guild, I suppose.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if the minor guild interface bugs became massive UI problems when all the new stuff was added (guild rep, guild XP) and they took the easy way out rather than cater to the maybe 100 guilds that were truly that large.

It’s easy enough to create an alt guild and link guild chats, for example. Although true guild alliance feature would be very, very nice (for chat, calendar, etc…).

I have 1 Brewfest quests to do on each one (pink ellecks), but when I took the boat out of Menethil (it looked like we were going to Kalimdor), I didn’t see either one on the map. Checked the web and apparently I WAS on the right boat. Can someone help, please?

Thanks

Q

The ship from Menethil docks at Theramore Isle. You want the ship from Stormwind Harbor.

When you get off the boat from Stormwind at Auberdine, you’ll see another dock right across the main dock from you. That ship goes to Teldrassil.

If you go from the ship from Stormwind to the main dock and turn left, the ship to Azuremyst lands at the end.

Quasi, for both those locations, you have to take a boat to Auberdine in Darkshore.

To get to Azuremyst, get off the boat from Azeroth and run to left dock. That boat dumps you right near the city.

To get to Teldrassil, you take the other boat (there are three in Darkshore). You’ll get off the boat at a place called Rut’theran Village. From there, look for a stone building that is only pillars and a roof, filled with a pink glow. Run into it, and you will be transported to Teldrassil.

In the alternative, you can fly to Teldrassil/Darnassus (night elf city) from Theramore or from Auberdine if you have the FP…
No kodo for me. :frowning: And that dagger I thought was BoE was BoP instead, so I vendored it for 21 gold. :frowning:

On the upside, Bloodmage Gloves dropped for me in VoA 10, so now I’m 3/5 T10, and will get the 4 piece T10 bonus before Cata launch. Rocking 5451 GS now. A long way from the 73 mage I had when i got back into the game what…almost 3 months ago?

SFG, I am now respecced into Arms and am grinding out some ability in one handed weapons. It’s been a long time since I’ve even had a one hander, so I have about 150 skill levels to make up for. There were a decent pair of axes on the auction house that were cheaper than the raws woul dhave been to make them, so I should be doing better soon.

I do miss Bloodthirst, though. A lot.

Eh, it was actually the first time (in maybe a dozen FoS runs on that toon) it had ever occurred to me to sheep that mob. I credit all the talk about the necessity of CC in Cataclysm dungeons - it planted the seed in my head, and when I spotted that mob not joining the scrum, the seed sprouted: “Hey, why don’t I sheep that guy?”

I was actually a bit worried that the tank wouldn’t notice I’d sheeped the mob and would take off for the next batch of mobs, leaving that mob angry at me when the polymorph wore off. Fortunately, he spotted it.

Speaking of that, I’ve recently had to cancel a few auctions due to apparent AH noobs who have no idea how to price things. I’ll post a stack of something, refresh the view, look at the Buyout price, find that price acceptable (let’s say 24g) and click “Create Auction” a bit too quickly, and just as I click I notice that my Bid price is something like 19 silver. Usually because somebody posted a single unit of a stackable item (probably something they got out of a chest somewhere) for the automatically-suggested price of, say, 90 copper. So I’ve got to cancel the auction and repost it with a more acceptable Bid price, lest somebody schlep my stack of Wild Steelbloom for 19s.

I wish Auctioneer would do a better job of ignoring those outliers, since it appears to undercut the “Bid” and “Buyout” prices separately.

Speaking of mage macros, can you suggest a good macro that will attach my Talisman of Resurgence to my Frostfire Bolt? The trinket is in the second trinket slot. I hate trinkets with “Use” abilities, cuz I never remember to use them, so I figure a macro will help with that.
