Something else Quasi may enjoy doing–as you are nearly 80, you can probably solo almost any dungeon in the game below Burning Crusade. Gives you a chance to see that content, score some low level loot for alts or sale, and you have the entire instance to yourself. A couple of dungeons have some rare drop blue bind on equip items that sell for lots of gold–usually to people buying them for twink alts. Shadowfang Keep is one such dungeon. The Big Boss there is level 25 or so, so you can slap him around at will, and any mob in the zone can drop a very nice dagger for that level…
You can also get quests for the various dungeons. The experience award would likely not be enough to matter to you, but you also get reputation with various factions…
Relatively late; pretty much just with the RDF system, so yeah, I suspect I’ve never run Occy in its pre-nerf glory. Refreshing the mounts before pulling Eregos doesn’t seem particularly necessary nowadays, except in exceptional situations. Relative heroic-nubs [such as myself] won’t automatically recognize the situation, and would lack reasonable caution. And, judging from Yeticus’ outcome, pre-nerf discretion has become unnecessary post-nerf.
My spriest alt is already a 450 goblin engi. But there isn’t so much synergy between engineering and priesting. Case in point: jumper cables/gnomish army knife. I’m a priest. I don’t need another way to maybe rez.
The haste glove buff is the just about the only thing useful in a combat situation that a priest can use. The rest of engineering stuff is utility and fun.
I haven’t kept up with the patch notes and early press. Frankly, I’m dreading relearning how to play my classes, and as relatively little as I play, I don’t have extra time to waste on PTR pre-learning.
I need to sit down and figure out my levelling strategy. I guess I’ll rotate between my two 80s and my new goblin, taking advantage of the rested XP bonuses. The other option is the pick one of my 80s and race to 85 as fast as I can, but that sounds less appealing and besides, how could I choose which one?
I’m thinking I’ll jump straight on a Goblin Shaman and take him up to 85. I won’t get World First or Realm First by a long shot, but it sounds like the best way to experience all the new content.
My usual alt is at 61 right now, but he’s on a different server than my main so no heirlooms for him. There’s so much new shiny at 80 I haven’t been playing my alt lately. Maybe when I get bored of shiny 80, but that might not happen before Cata comes out, and then there will be EVEN MORE NEW SHINY so maybe I’ll get back to my alt next year :P. But I want to get him up in time to do the alt runs that people will be doing with their new goblins in the BDL.
No, the Dungeon Finder probably won’t even give you access to the old world dungeons. I think you’ve done some of them at-level, with the normal group of 5…Deadmines, Stormwind Stockade…at least I remember you talking about those. There’s also Scarlet Monastery in the Forsaken starting zone, Shadowfang Keep in Silverpine Forest, Uldaman in the Badlands, Blackrock Depths and Lower Blackrock Spire in Blackrock Mountain, between Burning Steppes and Searing Gorge, Wailing Caverns in the Barrens, Blackfathom Deeps in Ashenvale, Zul’Farrack in Tanaris, Dire Maul in Feralas and Mauradin in Desolace. I may have missed one or two. Just be careful…at 80, you should be able to do any of them solo, but if you get mobbed by a lot of enemies, you can go down quickly even so. The good news is that your aggro radius (the distance at which enemies will become hostile to you) is very, very small. Extremely small. Just don’t get to close to things you don’t have to.
The flippant answer is “just walk into the instance”.
The slightly more extensive (and verbose; forgive me if this is already old news to you) answer is:
Locate the dungeon you’re interested in within the world at large. For instance, consider Shadowfang Keep (SFK), mentioned earlier. Research in WoWWiki shows that it’s in the Silverpine Forest region. Most resources will even give helpful maps of the areas so you know where the instance is, relative to its region.
Travel to the instance. If the instance is in a friendly or neutral zone, you may be able to take flight paths to a town nearby. Horde members, for instance, can fly into The Sepulcher, which is the Forsaken town there. If there are no friendly flight paths in the area, you’ll have to fly to the nearest one in another zone. For Alliance and SFK, that’s probably Southshore in the neighboring Hillsbrad region. Regardless of which, you’ll still have to do some cross-country travel. That’s what +100% ground mounts are good for.
Make sure you’re not in a raid, and that your 5-man instance mode isn’t “Heroic” unless you mean it. In pre-TBC instances, that doesn’t matter, but Burning Crusade content does have heroic modes, and it’s a big step up in challenge. If it catches you by surprise, you might wipe.
Find the instance entrance portal. For SFK, it’s up a hill with a zig-zag path, very horror-movie-like, and across a bridge over a dry moat, and through the swirly spiral “force field” across the doorway.
Walk in. You are now in the instance. Good luck, have fun, don’t die!
I know I have y’all’s support - believe me, I do know that. I feel really close to you guys and that’s why I sometimes write the way I speak, if you know what I mean.
One more thing I wanted to explain about WoW and me (and you): I know that one day I’m not going to know anybody, so until that time I don’t want to be alone. I don’t mean D - that’s something different. I mean interacting with others. I’m kind of complicated (right?;)) and folks don’t always know how to relate to me .
The game lets me do that interacting - by proxy, yeah, but through Wolkie I get to see some pretty places and see and meet some very interesting “people” and, up to a point get to know them.
And I can do that anytime I want. Even if I don’t “speak” to them, there’s always someone in Azeroth.
And that’s why I get flustered when I can’t do a quest: I’m afraid that even though I’m at a higher level, maybe they’ll get so difficult I won’t be able to do them and they’ll be fewer and fewer.
So getting Wolkie to 80 is more than just getting there - it’s me challenging me. And it’s also “being with” people.
Quasi–ya know I don’t do that mushy touchy-feely stuff. Still, know that in my eyes, dealing with what you’re facing with the courage you’ve shown, you’re a bigger hero than any King Slayer Raid Tank dual wielding Shadowmourne WoW has ever seen.
Yeah…we know a day will come when you won’t remember us. We will always remember you. Take that to the bank.
Very true, very true. Old habits die hard. Especially ones that you developed to keep your party alive.
You can give him all the heirlooms you can buy, for a small fee.
1.) Level a mule to 10 on the same realm as your main.
2.) Buy all the Heirlooms you want to send–don’t forget a Cold Weather Flying book!
3.) Load the mule up with the Heirlooms, plus any other things you’d like your alt to have. (If you want to transfer money, do it in the form of chant mats, ore, gems, herbs, BOE pets, etc.)
4.) Pay $25 to transfer the mule to your alt’s realm.
5.) Transfer the items from the mule to your alt. Heirlooms can all be mailed, even cross-faction. Anything else can be mailed if they’re the same faction, or sent over via the neutral AH with the help of a friend if they’re not.
Nope! They always keep a good mix of complicated quests and less complex ones. I don’t think we’ll ever see the death of “bring me X of item Y.”
Speaking of enchanting mats, I found out that BC-level elementals (primals and motes of air, water, fire, etc) are going for a crazy amount on Cairne - like 60g. It probably varies. I had some old primals and motes in my bank from a long time ago and put them on the AH this week. They go for a lot more than the WotLK-level Eternals do.
Please someone in BDL please reduce my access down to Ember Puppy until I post on here on the Dope saying that it’s all good. (Yeti, Sinj, Destroyer, JC, and Bank)
Is this a phishing scam or real? Just want to get a consensus. Haven’t even clicked on any of these links yet.
If this is true, I will go ahead and order an authenticator. If it’s not, I will go ahead and order an authenticator.
I was getting spammed by two gold sellers last night and I basically whispered them to STFU and GTFO. Is this a possible way of retailiation by them? If so, how did they get my account name from my toon’s name?
I was on my computer at home (the clean one from a few months ago with the upgraded AVG software), so I don’t believe I have any virus/trojans on it. So I think this is a hoax to give up some info on myself.
Oh man, I forgot about those! I joke all the time about electrocuting my guildies. >:D It’s gotten to be a habit with me when jumpstarting someone to wait a few moments, then poke them. Then boo/cheer the outcome.
The rocket boot + parachute cloak combo is awesome, especially in Arathi Basin. Kamikaze off LM and go sailing into BS to Save the Day ™ or die like a dog. Haven’t blown myself up yet doing that but iirc the boots can’t malf in a bg/arena/indoors.
Someone already pointed this out, but just in case you missed it,
soloing old instances is a great way to earn money, reputation and achievements, to challenge yourself and to have fun. BUT, it will not bring you any closer to level 80. If that is your top priority right now, maybe you should wait with soloing old stuff until you reach your goal.
Those instances aren’t going anywhere and will be something to do when Wolkie is at level 80.
