Q
10 characters per server doesn’t keep you from playing with who you want to play with, nor does it prevent you from enjoying rewards that you have earned.
ETA: Here’s an analogy for you. Let’s say they told you that they were going to expand it to 15 characters per server in Cataclysm. Now, maybe a couple of weeks at most from 4.0, they tell you that instead, that pre-launch patch will actually lower the per-server limit to 5. And you can’t roll any more alts on any server until you delete enough toons to get you at no more than 5 on any server. Would you be pissed off?
Because THE UI IS FUCKING BROKEN. They *can’t *see who those idle people are.
1.) This affects 0.1% of guilds. We have *no idea *what percentage of the *playerbase *it affects. Talking about how many “guilds” it affects is obscenely misleading, because, as I’ve already mentioned, it weights an inactive one-person bank guild *exactly the same *as an active 6,000 person social guild. It also does not count guilds who’ve already split themselves into sister guilds to stay below the current 500-member soft cap.
2.) Please show me *any change *in the history of WoW where they further broke something they promised to fix that affects your ability to play with who you choose and recieve the benefits for your efforts.
Not only are you quoting Blizzard’s misleading statistic, you got it wrong by an order of magnitude. It’s 0.1%, not 0.01%.
Exactly. Dances are a cosmetic thing. Guilds are who you play with. There’s no comparison.
Excluded middle: Keep things exactly as they are right now, where the guild UI still broken if you have more than 500 people, but you can do it if you’re willing to put up with the busted UI until they *do *have the time to fix it.
If it really broke the new guild leveling features to have more than 600 people in a guild, they woudln’t be doing freezes–they’d be breaking them up or disbanding them automatically. The fact that they’re freezing them at their current size means that nothing is going to break any worse with 4.0 with larger guilds.
Not your fault. It’s SOP to pick up a new drake before pulling Ery, and the tank should have made sure everyone was prepared. And grats on the new mount!
Welcome to Icecrown, Quasi! I know Wolkie will do great. Hope Silka stays warm… Those feathers do look pretty insulating, though.
Are you still using QuestHelper? If so…
1.) Open your map (“M”).
2.) Right-click the QuestHelper button in the upper right.
3.) Select the top option, which is something like Incomplete Quests.
4.) This will put a purple dot on the map for every quest you still need to do. It will give a quest name and number. You can look the quest up on Wowhead by plugging its number into the end of this URL: http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=
5.) To go back to normal, right-click the Quest Helper button again and click the same option as before.
Note that not all of the quests will be ones you can complete–some of them require you to be a certain class, for example.
Somebody else may be able to suggest a better dedicated addon for scanning your incomplete quests.
I’m *so glad *you posted about it, because I didn’t want to steal your thunder, so I was worried that I was going to be limited to an “OMG you guys, **Daed **did something totally awesome, but I can’t tell you what yet.”
Congratulations on downing Heroic LK in 25! I’m so proud of all of you, and I just regret I couldn’t be there to see the achievement spam. My new video card’s out for delivery as of this morning, so fingers crossed that it’ll fix the problems I’ve been having so I can join in the celebrations tonight. Woooooooooo!
Incidentally, Quasi, you could also try checking out the Storm Peaks, which is north of Zul’Drak and northeast of Dalaran; look around for a little town with a bunch of searchlights around it; that’s the Goblin town of K2, which should have a buncha quests for you to do.
Awesome stuff. Congrats.
My much more humble accomplishment this week was finally getting Glory of the Icecrown Raider (10-man) on my tank. So two raid meta drakes in 3 days!
Glad we got it before the patch. Once we got our full lineup showing up the zerg on Sindragosa was actually quite easy (it helped that our OT-as-DPS (me) got tombed first, and our weakest ranged DPS got tombed second - go go RNG help).
The LK achieve was pretty straightforward too, but we had to do phase 2 and 3 with one tank, cause our pally forgot to cleanse me of the 30-stack plague after the last shambling horror died. They still had very little trouble with only one tank (and one DPS dead too, I think).
My hunter snagged a 10-man group that is aiming for Bane, and we got 10/12 heroic down last night but had a 3% wipe on Sindra before calling it. Hopefully I can make the follow-up and at least get a few attempts in on HLK before the patch. If not, no big deal.
I’m officially calling this expansion completed for my toons!
I’m okay if I’m asked to do a one on one quest, even if I have to “gather” something to use on another character who is also a part of the same quest. (That elemental spirit one with the tether to summon the lord?)
What I’m not good at, are quests where if I’m going after one enemy, I also have to “watch out” for another one (like an aerial one), or if I’m given only a certain amount of time on a gryphon (that helpless villagers quest I recently tried to do in Wintergard(?)) and if I’m not fast enough I get dropped. Or the rescue of the soldiers being helped captive in Icecrown (there were 3) where I not only had to fly a borrowed dragon, swoop low pick them up using that dashboard thing that appears at the bottom of the screen and watching out for the enemy’s flying dragons.
Y’all I can’t “divide” my brain up to do these things at the same time or try to remember to do them sequentially. It won’t work that way anymore. (I haven’t played my drums lately, but maybe I need to set them up to check my right-left hand and foot independence.)
So what happens when I try do these quests? I get very nervous and Wolkie and/or Silka go all over the place instead of where they are supposed to go. I try to do those quests and sometimes I’ll go back and try a second time when I fail, but I generally avoid (compensate for) them.
Also, sometimes when I’m fighting 2 enemies at the same time (that still works - thanks to Bladestorm) and a third is sending those fireballs at me, sometimes I die because I can’t find that third guy.
SFG, I’m sure you’ve noticed I’m asking the same questions you answered before, and I keep those answers in a file marked with your initials, but a lot of times I forget I HAVE that file, and I feel like I’m asking the question for the first time. Sorry.
Sometimes I stop completely, put the game on log out and yeah, cry (sorry guys). Then I go back in. As you all know, I LOVE WoW. It’s become a major part of my life with the role playing, etc., and that means y’all are a major part of my life too. Hence the effusive thank you’s from time to time.
So I grind a lot.
Remember the auction question from a couple of nights ago? I understood your answers then, but damn if I didn’t screw up an auction three times in a row and had to cancel the items and go back and forth LAST NIGHT.
Okay, so that’s a kind of “update” on my dementia and its noticeable progression. Just wanted to let y’all know why I get mixed up and seem forgetful. We’ve increased the meds and in real life, I can remember to do three things (like my chores) in a row, but screw up on the 4th.
It’s very important that I get Wolkie to 80 and I appreciate your help very much.
Thanks guys
Bill
Quasi, we’re rooting for you, and no matter how many times you have to ask a question or get advice, we’re glad for the chance to help you. No one here will get tired of helping you get Wolkie to 80! And you need to do it in a way you enjoy, so if a quest is too hard or confusing, just dump it. There are plenty of other quests and mobs that will get you there.
Oh, and this might be telling tales out of school (let me know if I should keep this stuff to myself in the future, Daed), but it’s too hilarious not to share: Just on Tuesday, someone who’d come into The Backseat from a more progressed guild had gquit saying that we were never going to kill the LK on Heroic in 25.
Psh, I wouldn’t call that so humble! Good luck on Bane with the Hunter.
If you’ve got the space to set 'em up and D wouldn’t mind the noise it might not be a bad idea to keep up with the drums as another kind of therapy. The kind of coordination you need could be helpful.
I know you wouldn’t be asking again if you remembered, friend o’ mine. I don’t mind giving you the same info twice.
Hugs for the frustration and cheers for the perseverance!
We’re all rooting for you, Quasi! I know you can do it.
Must be nice. My main is overrun with EoTs. And is in full T10.5. And needs absolutely nothing from the Frosty vendor. And has no altspec to equip (well… he’s a huntard, so let’s just say is offspec gear is startlingly like his raid gear).
Now, my spriest and enhance shammy alts… radically different offspecs (healing, in both cases) and could dearly use some offspec EoF gear… but no extra EoTs.
TANJ.
TBH, I’ve never seen anyone do this in an Occy run, so I’m not surprised the tank got fooled. It’s brilliant, especially if your drake took damage while it was performing taxi duty or from the packs of little blue whelps… but I’ve never seen it done, or even suggested, in any Occy run I’ve done.
I’d use rough language regarding your parentage and the marital status of your parents at the time you were born, but I don’t even know you, so I’ll just force “Congratulations” between gritted teeth and walk away muttering “TANJ…”
Jealousy is a bitch. You have no idea the depths of depraved violence I’d descend to to get that drake, just to bump up my Mountain o’ Mounts count.
“Danger, danger, Will Robinson! Obsessive Compulsiveness!”
Anyways, grats indeed. First, for surviving, and keeping a cool head. And second, for the drop.
The random mount drops drive me crazy for that achievement. My priest, who collects mounts, has gotten just one rare mount drop: the polar bear. My alt pally, who I’ve only been playing for a few months, got both the Blue Drake from Oc, and both Brewfest mounts last week.
Oh well. Back to grinding my Sha’tari Skyguard rep…
I’m not so tense about Mountain o’ Mounts any more. I surrendered sanity and my Skinning tradeskill. So now I’m a 450 Dragonscale Leatherworker and a 315 Engineer who already learned Flying Machine!
I hear that hunter engineers enjoy life more. And it’ll be good to be able to make my own arrows. And repairbots, because the stupid pugs I keep winding up in keep wiping us. :smack:
I’ll miss the 1% crit chance, but not so much. I have another skinner alt that can supply my leatherworking, so logistics aren’t much of a consideration either.
I think this will work out. And if it doesn’t, I can ditch engineering and pick skinning back up again. I won’t be able to use the Flying Machines, but no big loss.
You could always become a tailor. They have at least three crafted mounts.
Really? Out of curiosity, when did you start running Oculus–early in Wrath, or after it got the massive nerfs?

Hunter engineers represent.
Things I love about being an engineer:
And in Cata we’re getting extra super special love. <3
Congratulations!! cheer
I wish Blizzard had a way to help those of us with no raiding friends on a server and no experience raiding. I love the RDF, but even 10-mans are too hard to do with something like it. Once in a while someone will post LFG in general chat, but I’m too shy to respond especially since my GearScore is crappy and I have yet to accurately measure my DPS because there’s ten thousand different ways to figure it out.
I find your ideas intriguing and I would like to subscribe to your newletter.
I’ve never had an Engineer before. I haven’t decided on professions for my upcoming goblin shammy; maybe I should give it a try.
Quasi, I generally suck at those kind of quests too. Sometimes my fingers don’t really work so good, sometimes my latency issue makes that stuff undoable, sometimes I’d just rather do something else. It’s not a big deal. Play the game they way you like. If you’re having fun, and not griefing anyone–which I know you would never do–then you’re doing it right.
Exactly. There are plenty of quests–if you do all the quests in all the zones, you’ll hit 80 somewhere in Sholazar, I believe. Which means there are two full zones left that you won’t have even touched yet. So if you get bogged down in a zone and aren’t having fun anymore, don’t worry about it. Skip the quests you don’t like and do the ones you enjoy. When you can’t find any more that you enjoy in a zone, move on to the next one (though do make sure you’re level-appropriate, or the quests will be frustratingly hard). In any case, there’ll be plenty to get you to 80.
I love being a hunter with engineering, the possibilies for fun are endless! Plus using your rocket boots to super jump off tall objects is fun, just remember your parachute.
Grats Daedelus on Light of Dawn!
Yet another week goes by with no Lich King kill. Even with two experienced Kingslayers in the group calling out things and giving advice we just couldn’t pull it out. 11% (They’ll say 13%, but I saw 11!) wipe on the first night gave us some hope for the next but the closest we got was 15%.
The last wipe of the night was a heartbreaker, everything was going perfectly up until the transition to phase 3. Two frost orbs are up, one’s half dead, the other at full health when Quake is cast. I take my raging spirit and start kiting him along the edge away from the orbs once the ice falls down, next thing I see is our tank healer and another DPS go flying off the platform. Yeah, they hit the frozen orbs. We wipe and call it for the week. I should feel bad about it, but I honestly couldn’t stop laughing.
I surprised myself by how well I tanked everything, except for that one time I tried to be helpful and intervened the tank on Soul Reaper only to have the LK turn around and whack our DK who was riding the tanks threat. I suppose I should be dissapointed, but I’m not. I had a blast tanking and doing what little I could to be useful, I think I made myself a better tank last night and as far as I’m concerned that’s more exciting than a boss kill.
Oh, btw, congratulations on Light of Dawn! I’m so jealous! Our guild got Bane this week (not me–it was a group that’s been working on it for weeks and weeks) but Light still eludes us.
