New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

I checked the AH last night with some trepidation for glyphs, just to see what I was up against. To my surprise, all the glyphs I needed except one were under 20g and several were under 5g. Either I was over-anxious, or prices really dropped in the last few days.

Quasi - they buy paper from the inscription vendor, but they use Northrend herbs to grind down into ink of different kinds.

Usually it takes maybe 15 herbs to make a glyph, if you’re lucky, or it could take more. The herbs have to be ground in multiples of 5 of the same kind, to be able to get any pigments out of them. So if you’re a flower-picker (herbalist), it might be nice to barter a glyph for a stack of the cheaper, less-used herbs like Talendra’s Rose or Deadnettle, or whatever is going for cheap.

So if it says “your mats”, then that means I provide everything, right?

I’m not a flower-picker, Wolkie is. He’s started skipping through the meadows with a basket. (I’m worried about that boy. I think I kept him away from Heather too long and now he’s gone a bit meschuggene).

Well, but yeah, I need to get back to the herbalism for sure. I just got hung up on skinning for the leather and the gold!

Thanks, FH

Q

If you fill up one glyph wheel, do you get another one, or do you just “know” those glyphs you had made would fit into the one wheel and are active anyway?

Thanks

Q

Okay, the way glyphs work now is that you “learn” them, and they stay in your glyph page forever. But you have to activate them to make them work, which involves putting them into the circles on the wheel. If you change your mind about a glyph, you can buy disappearing powder (I think that’s what it’s called) and erase that glyph out of the wheel so you can replace it with another one. But you don’t “forget” the glyph you erased like you used to (they used to be consumables…they aren’t now). It stays in your list in case you change your mind again. But you only get one glyph wheel per specialization, it’s just that it’s changeable without destroying the glyphs now.

BUT, if you dual-specialize, you get TWO glyph wheels that you can put different glyphs into (since glyphs can help make your spec more effective).

Oh, and my game is now working reasonably well, most of my add-ons are either updated or replaced, but I SO MISS Elkano’s Buffbars and need it to be updated posthaste! Nothing else I’ve tried is quite right…

I’m rather pleased at how quickly everyone got their addons updated for 4.0. I really ought to consider spreading some donations around.

The only problem child is Questhelper. The creator completely discontinued it, and I’m not sure any other quest mod displays areas to hunt like QH did. I’m using QuestGuru right now, which isn’t too bad. And no, the in-game quest tracking isn’t quite what I need.

Anybody looked at the paladin and hunter T11 sets yet?

I’m hoping the red version is the Retribution set

I don’t know about that hunter helm, though. Nothing like a row of bars in front of your eyes while you’re trying to aim at a distant target …

Is it just me, or does it appear that Blizzard is going back to the “high fantasy” thing with Cata?

Bossy, Auctioneer works??? I ask because I went to Curse’s home page and they said they’re working on it. So, uninstall and re-install?

The in-game quest “helper” is flawed (IMO). The yellow arrow represents (I think) the closest quest and not the one you need for it to point to. Has anyone noticed this? I miss QH.

Also my talents icon starts blinking at random. All points are spent and the glyph has everything that will fit. Any ideas?

Thanks

Have you tried Carbonite? It’s pretty big and has oodles of functionality and options, but it doesn’t seem to slow down my game any.

Another vote for Carbonite. I’m a big fan and they already have a v4 update.

I tried it, and to be honest the graphical design irritated me (no idea if it has alternate skins). Plus it tries to do too many things; all I wanted was a quest tracker. I’m very happy with the current addons I have that do everything else Carbonite wants to do.

I went to the developer’s website and got the preview addon. When they have a stable release version, which should be soon, it’ll be put on Curse.

I can give you instructions on how to get the preview version, but it might be safer if you wait it out.

Oh! Yeah, I saw that on their home page - complete with how-to images, right? Exactly what I thought when I saw all that - wait for the real thing.

By the way, that Curse guy has a lot of class. I read some of the comments where he wrote that until he got a version of auctioneer/qh that was 100% workable he would not bind it to WoW, as you mentioned.

Thanks

Quasi

Also, y’all are talking about Carbonite. That’s the one that also backs up files, right? It isn’t free, though, right?

Quasi, they are talking about an add-on for WoW named Carbonite which is different than the online backup service. Check out the link posted above. It is true it does a lot of stuff but I exclusively use it’s quest helping functions. It highlights areas of the map you need to go to for a particular quest and also offers a handy arrow pointing you in the right direction. What I know about you from reading the board and this thread it sounds like something right up your alley.

Anyone else notice the earthquakes are getting more frequent and more intense? I’m wondering if the landscape will change before the expansion comes out.

Rumor has it we’ll be getting invasions of elementals next.

And for the Horde - drop by Thrall’s throne room in Org. Interesting conversation between Horde leaders relevant for lore. Also, it seems Garrosh has been taking steroids or something - he has a new look and it’s ugly!

I saw the elemental invasion on the PTR just before 4.0 dropped. It was neat to go through once or twice, but after a while (it’s periodic, like the Dark Iron invasions at brewfest) I wished it would just stop happening, as it was impossible to bank, AH, train, vendor, etc while the invasion was taking place. I never caught the beginning of it, so I don’t know if there’s some quest you can pick up or if there was some way to be rewarded for defending the cities (I didn’t receive anything for beating back the elementals) – so it seemed like it’s just there for giggles and cata hype. If that’s truly the case, I imagine that 1) it’ll just be something different and fun to do to make gameplay more interesting going into cata, and 2) it’ll just annoy people who really only want to bank/train/AH before logging out for the night.

Oh, yeah…I dropped by the throne room to listen to that little conference the other day and I wondered why Garrosh turned into some kind of proto-orc. He looks like an unfinished model or something.

Can it possibly be any more annoying than the damn infectious zombie invasion before Lich King came out? I have trouble imagining annoyance more intense than those weeks of frustration.

Yeah, they actually halted the zombie invasion early because the players were screaming in frustration. At first it was interesting but when it got to the point you just couldn’t do anything it wasn’t fun anymore.

I’m hoping Bliz is a bit more reasonable this time around.
